car seats in UK

so do UK car seats have top tethers? do UK cars have the necessary anchors? so confused!

No, and no.

European cars are not generally designed with those in mind. ISOFIX is the main 'system' in use which would emulate this (and some of these have a base with a 'foot' for additional bracing/support).

If in doubt in the UK, buy Britax. There are other good seats, but that makes it 'simple' if more expensive...

Two separate issues. Isofix is the same as US LATCH for the bottom anchors. US car seats have both LATCH anchors and top tethers. Swedish seats also top tether. I don't remember having top tether anchors in the UK (our car seat never got moved around so I can't remember!), but I don't know how UK seats keep from shifting (with a US seat, if you do bottom LATCH only, it will move).

The bracing leg is a good idea.
