What a joke.

"And since the chance of dying of the flu is far greater than the chance of suffering an extremely rare serious allergic reaction to the vaccine itself, the vaccine is a pretty good bet, and parents everywhere should try to get past their (irrational) fears and let their pediatricians do their jobs and vaccinate their kids."

Well yes of course this article is right on the money. After all we all know that the only adverse events that are vaccine induced are allergic reaction and we all know that those are 1 in million.

Article = lies, propaganda and bullsh**

I really wonder how much he paid the author to write such a nice story about him. He really loves attention doesn't he?

The picture of him holding the baby nearly made me puke.

Paul Offit is so cool. Have you read his book? It's great.

Paul Offit is out for everything Paul Offit can get. He is not concerned about the children and what damage he does to them. He has turned a blind eye. I wonder if he will ever look back and realize that money is not everything?

You have to have a clear conscience to live free.

I had to read the piece in small doses because it was so gross of a puff piece.

He had to pay no one for this coverage. The majority of American parents who do vaccinate on schedule want nothing more than for him to be right. It is hard to find a journalist who can write this piece while being completely objective.

Hmm, it seems to me that it might be too late for this type of pressure. I think they are walking a fine line where the harder they try to shout "ignore it! ignore it and get one with it!" the more interested people might become.

Seriously, not even if I was paid.

You could tell it was a biased puff piece right from the get-go - describing Jenny McCarthy as the "plasticene actress", and then claiming that she "cured" her son from autism from a diet that "she invented".

Mmm, what? Jenny always describes her son's recovery from autism, but never uses the term "cured". And where did the author think she ever claimed to have invented the dairy free-gluten-free diet? She found out about that diet helping children with autism, had great success with it on her son, and decided to write a book to get the news out to other parents so they could help their kids.

I have a hard time reading an article that contains so many lies right off the bat. I think I only made it to page 4. Just trash.

Ha ha! I read his book when my chiro loaned it to me (with a couple of other "more informative" books that basically confirmed what I already thought). I read the first few chapters and his conclusion in every one was that "it is very important to give your child this vaccine". That was how I learned about him when I looked him up and saw his sketchy ties to vaccines and government regulation. UGH! What a creep! I let her know and she tossed the book right in the garbage!

Earlier, I assumed this was sarcasm. But, if it's not, could you explain why he is so cool?

Nah!! It's got to be sarcasm.

1,2,3 ALTOGETHER NOW....."Aaaaaaaawwwwww". Poor Paul Offit, my heart breaks for him. I didn't realise he had such a complex about his public image. Perhaps if he worried more about actually talking about real science and less about mudslinging matches with McCarthey, Wakefield etc, he might actually be taken seriously and have a bit more credibility.

He also needs to be more careful about his criticisms for others. I mean seriously, saying that Wakefield "Made it up" is not doing himself any favours. Those sorts of comments are just outright lies and he only comes accross as looking desparate. Lying to the public is the worst thing you can do if you are trying to gain their trust.

That article was just utter trash journalism. Offit seriously needs to find himself a better PR manager.

Where can I learn more about Offit? Wiki doesn't have much.

I have to agree. It only makes the whole issue look more suspicious and his point of view less credible.

And the groomed very staged photo looks very disturbing - he does not look like a doctor, but rather an actor. Maybe that is what he was aiming for? Although it strikes me as odd that someone shouting "I have the science" would try and sell himself on a photo.

Not to mention that the baby in the pic look somewhat terrified, lol.

I couldn't get through it either. I do believe that when Offit first started down this road it really was with good intentions and the belief that he was genuinely out to help kids. (I hope that's the case for most people in medical sciences!) Unfortunately as the dollars rolled in and his intentions turned to fanaticism, I think he became blinded to the damage these vaccines can cause. Now he's just kind of creepy looking in that picture! There was so much misinformation about vaccines, and so many false assumptions about parents who choose not to vaccinate it was sickening.

I have read one of his books and I am in a line to get his newer one from the library. I feel I can learn a lot more from reading everything I can. I am also reading:

Do Vaccines Cause That?! A Guide for Evaluating Vaccine Safety Concerns by Martin G. Myers and Diego Pineda (pro vaccine)

The Vaccine Controversy: The History, Use, and Safety of Vaccinations by Kurt Link (I would say it's selective in nature so far, it has a suggested schedule at the end and is very 'historical' in nature- he gives a history of each disease and vaccine)
