People magazine article (x-posted in breastfeeding)

Thread Starter
Did anyone see the article in People about the man whose wife died shortly after delivery their son... and 25 women in Marquette, MI (where the man lives) are nursing his baby for him! Oh my... had me practically sobbing. He said he knew his wife wanted to breastfeed the baby for at least a year and all these women are loving his baby for him.
Things like this give me hope for the world. Seriously. ::

I saw the title and the headline and was pleased, but I also anticipate a big backlash from it. It's great though, isn't it?

Anyone have a link to the article? I could cry just reading your description of it! I LOVE that such a mainstream magazine as People carried a story like that. Bravo!

That's awesome! I'd love to read the article if anyone has the link.

What an amazing story. I got goosebumps and teared up reading it.

Just reading the OPs post made me smile. I bet the article is even more amazing. But like a PP said, I can only imagine the backlash from mainstreamers around the world Leave it to one of them to make something so beautiful into something so "dirty".

How wonderful for the baby!

I think this sounds great, but I have to admit I can't imagine the logistics of it. I pumped to donate and yes, it would have been easier to nurse a 2nd baby than to deal with the pump as far as the actual act. But, unless it was my best friend or sister and they were there too I can't imagine how to work it out. I guess they've scheduled the feedings? 20 women is a lot, do they rotate every day? Or one each nurses for half a day, and they cycle through every two weeks? Again, I'm not down at this, and I know there are orthodontic advantages, snuggles, etc. to cross-nursing vs. pump & bottle feed BM. It just seems confusing to work out.
ETA- Nevermind, just saw the 2nd article.

Beautiful.

Fascinating articles. I'll be interested to see the reader comments in another month. If this article demystifies BF a bit, that would be a good thing. If people respond with "how gross", then that'll make me sad.

I love mamas. I just love, love mamas.

This is why I love people...my DH is sure that you can't count on anyone but the two or three people you love the most, are the closest too...I maintain that all people are good and loving in their hearts, start off that way at least, and it's stuff like this that helps me stay feeling that way about human kind. :::

Oh if only that baby's mama could see...she would be so thankful and happy...

That's really cool. I bet he ends up marrying one of the mamas, if any of them are single.

Amazing. I love this, and it's so amazing that this sort of charity is real and happening still in our world. Incredible! :

That is so awesome! I hope other people see this and realize it is possible, I would so do it.

thanks for your kind words! I am one of the mamas in the picture. I will pass on your loving words to Moses and his daddy.

I remember reading that first article a few months back. So heart-warming! And I give that Dad so much credit to follow his heart and do what he knew his wife would want. Smart guy
And such generous and loving mamas to help little Moses grow big and healthy!

Are you really? How VERY cool. Thank you thank you for doing this.

My favorite quote from the article:

"He's getting the strongest mix of antibodies in the county," Goodrich said.
