oh, really, i liked rick. was disappointed that he couldn't even get out a quickfire, but was impressed with how he came fighting back. i liked 'em all but the one who won. he was just too smug. and a little creepy with the female diners.

i thought the same thing. when he mentioned he was using it, he seemed so pleased with himself. i was thinking, "basil? typical!" i was surprised the judges seemed so blown away by it.

I think Anita Lo is going to win. She seems to cook circles around everyone.

I still Michael Chiarrello...sigh. I was scared by Art Smith's lamb & egg ball.

i think anita might win as well. the lady can cook. i was sure art was going home (until suzanne served up some cold grouper -- YUCK!) i'm surprised art's made it this far.

so, what are they doing? whittling it down to three chefs for the final cook off? if so, i'm guessing it'll be anita, rick and hubert.

what did everyone think of this week's challenge??

it's funny that she said she watches every week - every season someone on here comments that a REAL challenge would be to make vegan meal LOL - she probably said the same thing & then said "I know, I'll ask them to go on the show and MAKE them make me a vegan meal"

I'm sorry Art went home; he seemed like a genuinely sweet and caring individual. Bad call on the store-bought rice cream, though!

It was a bit annoying that they were SO put off by making a vegan meal, I mean, at least where I come from, that is pretty normal stuff and they seemed utterly shocked, perplexed, and horrified by it. Any good chef I would imagine wouldn't need to be completely dependent on meat, and can make a great meal out of anything- which they ultimately did!

Those tamales looked good! So did the pasta. Anita sure did have an off night. I hope she bounces back next week.

I loved Art. Bad on the ice cream, though. Bad.

Honestly, when Zoe (love her!!) was describing her food requirements, all I could think was, "What the heck does she EAT?" Then at the end she says all she usually eats is raw vegetables. I thought the chefs were pretty creative to come up with some decent dishes that fast being so far out of their comfort zones. I think they were more put off by not being able to use diary or wheat than the meat. All of them are used to doing vegetarian versions at their restaurants. But, to not be able to use cream, eggs, butter, cheese and even pasta??? I think that's what threw them for a loop!

I could see the final three being Hubert Keller (for sure!), Rick Bayless, and I forget his name...the Italian chef guy. I think Anita will go home next week unless the challenge is right up her alley.

I like all the finalists. It's so hard to pick a favorite.

The judges sure go easy on these contestants, don't they? I know it's because they are professionals and well known in their fields. I really like that British critic with the floppy hair. Maybe they can bring him in for the regular season of Top Chef.

I can't wait for the new season of Top Chef with Padma and Tom. I've missed them. *sob*

We just said that last night while watching, we miss (well DH does) Padma and Tom. I always remember someone always commenting they think Tom is hot. Cannot wait for that when TCVegas starts.

I knew when Art bought the rice milk ice cream he was a goner. Buying something ready made nearly always results in a loss. He could have done something with chocolate or nuts or fruit. I think he had a lot more desert options than he realized but perhaps desert is not his forte.

What's up with Dale losing his temper like that? Granted Michael was overbearing but still...

I love Hubert and Rick. I think Rick Bayless is hot.

I do not like Michael at all...he needs to get over himself already...he is really a poor sport...his facial expressions ans comments irk me...I like Rick and Hubert for different reasons...I thought Hubert was going to be this stuffy/snobby person...sorry for thinking about the French in a stereotypical way... but he really proven himself otherwise. Rick just seems like a nice guy, kinda a bit of an underdog type of personality that makes you like him.

i never liked him, but now i REALLY don't like him. what a jerk. "what's my name?" i love what richard said, "if someone asks 'what's my name' they deserve to have it pronounced wrong". what a total egomaniac that guy is. i really wanted him to go home, but am almost glad he didn't. if he had, he'd just be blaming his sous chefs.

what happened to anita? she was so great in the beginning.

i'd be happy if either rick or hubert wins. anyone but michael.

can't wait until next week. top chef masters finale and top chef las vegas premiere!

Yay Rick!!

what a great challenge that was!!

YAY!!!! So happy that Rick won! I think it's great that they are all splitting the money. I wanted to bathe in that mole too!

I got to watch this at my parent's house (we don't have cable) and loved it.

I actually liked Michael Chiarello more than I ever have... just by how he was friends with Rick. But his going on about the quinoa pasta like he discovered something new just kind of irked me. I've seen quinoa pasta for yeeeeaaarrs, Michael. It's really not that revolutionary. :

I felt bad for Art. He seems like a nice guy. He should have just pulled out a spoon and tasted a few of the ice creams. The new coconut milk by Turtle Mountain is really good...and would have worked. But of course, he would never know that if he hadn't tried it. Even the joys of earth balance margarine are not going to be known by somebody unused to making vegan food. Add on to that gluten-free and no soy... yikes!

I think dessert was one of the more difficult courses given the requirements. Vegan, fine. But vegan gluten-free, dairy free....and you want to go beyond fruit salad or sorbet? Much more difficult.
i just didn't like the way he acted during the next to the last episode....

Yay! I'm so glad Rick won. His food looked delicious. I really want to fly to Chicago to eat in his restaurant.
