Talked to the kids new MD today...

I left my kids old ped for his lack of understanding of why on earth I wouldn't circ this baby, and transferred them to my dr, who is a fam MD just starting his own practice. I've been with him actually since his first year of residency, so I feel pretty comfortable talking to him about pretty much anything. When my DD was in to see him today for some issues, I also brought up what I was planning for this baby for in the hospital. When I said, "as far as circumcision," He cut me off and said, "Your NOT circ'ing RIGHT?" I told him No, and I will not tolerate any retraction of manipulation of the foreskin. He just did a "Whew!" and wiped his brow in a relief kind of gesture. I also told him that I wanted to let him know ahead of time we also will not be doing the eye drops, vit K, or Hep B and told him why. He was absolutely supported of ALL my decisions, and told me that NO ONE should EVER retract my son except him. He repeated that to me like 3 times, and I told him that I did know that, and he just kept repeating it, saying that he just wanted to make sure that I understood that it was a BIG deal if anyone tried to do it.
When I told him I just wanted to inform him of our decisions ahead of time, his reply was "don't worry, I'll definitely go to bat for you and back you up 100% in your choices. If you have any problems at the hospital, you tell them to call me directly, and they will have to answer to me."
YAY!!!!! I feel like I hit the jackpot with this doc! Maybe it helps that he is fresh out of school, and not been polluted by all the past myths for as long, or maybe he is just more educated? Either way, I'm happy as a clam right now!

Just thought I'd put it out there to let people know that there ARE foreskin friendly doc's even in a place as UN-foreskin friendly as MI, and a little bit of good news always makes the cause seem a little bit easier to continue with.

I know! I absolutely love him as a doctor...when I was sick with bronchitis and pnemonia, he wanted me to use a nasal pot to help rinse out the mucus before any meds for that too. He believes in medication as a last resort, and if it ain't broke, don't fix it! He was very open with explaining to me at that appointment about how drugs are classified as A, B, or C, and that most drugs DO NOT work. He said about 90% are honestly not proven to work, they are just there for the placebo basically, and another 5% work, but not all the time on everyone. He stated the remaining 5% do not only include medications, but also homeopathic, and natural remedies, but most docs dont believe in the natural or homeopathic treatments because they are not "medically proven."
It was when we had this discussion, I knew I found a new doc for my kids. I was on the search for a few weeks before that, and had not even considered taking them to him, but man am I glad I am now!

DH and I have been having some issues (not related to circ) and he is staying with his dad for a few weeks, but I dont' really want to get into that here...its all in my DDC whats been going on. DH has a physical later this week (same doc) and the dr is going to talk to DH about everything then too. I left him a copy of the birth plan, and he put on top of DH's blood results in his chart to remind him to do so. I don't think DH is going to want to push too many issues with me right now considering how our situation is at the moment, he knows there are more pressing issues that need to be addressed.

Don't be scared! Heck, if I can find a doc like this in my neck of the woods, there's got to be more in yours. Its all a luck of the draw, I'm sure you will find a wonderful doc though. Good luck!

University of Michigan is the first US med school that has stopped training obstetricians (who otherwise do 2/3 of infants circs) to circumcise.

Could you PM me the city of your doctor. I live in Michigan. He's probably not close by, but I wanted to check to be sure.

I know what you mean about foreskin un-friendly since I live here too and that's AWESOME!! :

You need to post his name over in "Finding Your Tribe". I'm not any where close, but if I were, I would want to know about a doctor like this!
