Ergo for newborn or get something new?

We adopted DS at 13.5 months and used the old style Ergo for quite a long time. I really liked it. I strongly prefer something that puts weight on both shoulders, and the Ergo also distributed some of it to my hips which was great for my bad neck. I do still have the Ergo packed away somewhere.

We are now considering pursuing a domestic adoption, which would mean a newborn. And I'm not sure if the Ergo is appropriate for a newborn? If not, what would you suggest?

I don't think I'd like a ring sling, I think I would fuss with it a lot and never feel totally secure that I had it adjusted correctly.

I would probably be wearing the baby quite a bit for walks/hikes with DS and at playgrounds, etc. We live in the SF Bay area so temperatures are pretty much between 55 and 75 year round.

I am 5'7" and around 125 pounds.

Thanks for any thoughts!

For money's sake - you can just by the infant insert or use a blanket and see if you like it - a lot of moms do but a lot don't.....

Then if it doesn't work - try something else - where you live you can walk into a store and try things on with the baby!!!!

I don't like slings or wraps but I think most people do......

I bought a Freehand MeiTai that I'm going to use with my newborn and a Pikkolo - I tried them on my friend's newborn and liked them both......

I also have an Ergo that we used a ton with DS1 and looks like it's been through a lot but loved it.......we didn't start using it with him though until he was older.

I didn't like the infant insert with the Ergo. My husband could've used the Ergo with DS froggied inside (no insert or just wrapped in a blanket), but the way I'm built, I end up with a vast void/pocket beneath my breasts (especially when they were in their engorged/oversupply stage for the first 4-7 mo). You're really slim, but are you curvy? If you're at all busty, the Ergo might not work for you for the newborn stage. You could try it with a real-size weighted babydoll, of course. Some stores which sell slings keep one on hand.

I thought the ring sling would be fiddly, but I LOVED it. In fact, I think I loved it because it was fiddly (which translates to infinitely adjustable in optimist-speak). DH loved his pouch (hotsling).

If I had a summer baby, I think I'd buy a gypsy mama bali baby breeze wrap. If I had a winter baby, I'd go for a Moby. In your climate, I have no clue.

Thanks! I am not at all curvy, at least not on top. LOL.
