My 6yo wants to learn Swedish - any software suggestions?

We live where there are no Swedish speakers and no Swedish language classes for children. Not a chance...

But she wants to learn Swedish because that is our family heritage. All the grandparents on my side came from Sweden.

DD loves computers - so I was hoping to find a children's software in Swedish. Any suggestions?

Some Ideas

You could check out Rosetta Stone. I've certainly heard of 7 and 8 year olds using it to start learning a language.

People in Homeschooling would have specific experience with independent language learning though. I'd try posting over there.

There is a store in Plano, TX that is a Scandinavian store called The Wooden Spoon. They may be able to guide you. Their phone number is 972-424-6867.

just let her watch the chef on the muppets! In all seriousness, I got some tapes before I moved to Denmark (Danish is similiar to Swedish, though less sing-songy) and it was total cr*p - it was advertised as beginner / intermediate Danish and I learned how to say "Where is the air field" and various other phrases totally out of context. Maybe put an add in your local paper? There's a decent scandinavian population in Minn/Wis....
