So...will you be finding out the gender? - Page 3

I think it is a boy...

We are probably having a boy. I think we will find out. Our first was a surprise and that was a long time ago, before everyone always found out what they were having. I like picking a name and calling the baby by the name before they come out... so he or she is more real to the kidlets.

Can I ask why you think that you are probably having a boy this early?

I'm thinking odds are we're having a boy too. We have three boys and one girl. I'd love for this one to be a little girl, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I want to think this is a girl (because it would be nice to have one of each) AND our timing was a little girl-ish, but this pregnancy feels just like DS's. Plus I'm craving salt, which I think is an old wives' tale predictor of boy.

Well I'm hoping this one is a boy...and so far the pregnancy has been more like DS's than my DDs'. But who knows. My friend who is into astrology predicted a boy, all the Chinese gender predictors have said girl. Shettles method or whatever would be boy, but then DS was conceived 5 days BEFORE O so I don't really put a lot into that either...

Speaking of finding out gender, there is a really cute video about how Josh and Anna Duggar found out the gender of their first child. I was trying to find a link to the actual video, but all I found for an IRL was the written report..

But cutting a cake to see the hidden inner color was a cute idea!

Those of you that want to find out the gender, anyone considering the home tests?

80% accuracy seems kind of iffy, but then considering it is just a urine test, it feels less invasive to me than a U/S.

These weren't around with my other babies, afaik, but I heard about them from a friend. Apparently one can test with them at 10 weeks.

Our Walgreens here are still under construction, so I couldn't buy one locally at this point even if I tried , but I still would like to hear some of your thoughts.

I'm undecided about whether to find out the sex. We did find out with DD. On one hand, I'd like to have the surprise. On the other hand, I love internet-window-shopping and would love to browse knowing what I'm having.

Either way, we probably won't tell anyone else. My MIL in particular goes very overboard in buying presents, and knowing the sex would send her into overdrive. If it's a girl, we are MORE than set with clothes, so I don't want to invite any more clothes entering this house unless I see it myself and fall completely in love.

I think I'm leaning towards a "surprise".

From what I've heard in real life they only seem to be about 50% accurate. You also cannot use them if you have PCOS.

Really? I wonder why?

It's in the fine print. I think it has something to do with the hormone that the test looks for, and I guess that hormone is naturally elevated if you have PCOS? So you'd get a boy result even if you are having a girl.

you have higher progesterone levels with PCOS, and you have higher progesterone levels when you're preggie with a boy

Are you sure? I have PCOS, and my doc said my progesterone was dangerously low, plus I have a lot of facial hair that I pluck ALL THE TIME. That would lead me to believe my progesterone is low and my testosterone is high...

The Intelligender website says:

What if I have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrom) or am on Progesterone treatment?
We recommend that you do not test while on Progesterone (wait 10 days from last dose) or at all if you have PCOS as you will likely get a “boy” result and IntelliGender cannot represent the accuracy of this result.

Nah, we like the surprise at the end and infuriating our friends who all want us to find out

Plus the anticipation of finding out the sex helps me through labour

I really don't want to. My husband does want to find out. I'm not sure how this will turn out....

I didn't want to find out with my first, but happened to see a very clear shot on my second dating scan.

This time around, I don't want to know. Partly because I'd like to avoid ultrasounds, partly because I'm kind of excited about the idea of a surprise and partly because I'm already being pestered by the "I hope it's a girl" comments from the in-laws. It will be their second grandchild, my son being their first... so the MIL, especially, has been talking "girl" non-stop since before I even found out I was pregnant. *sigh* I don't want to have to hear all of the "I really wanted a girl" comments if it happens to be a boy, and they will be a lot less likely to say that once the baby has actually arrived.
