Any you recommend?

I've used this pattern for my heavy days cloth. I would imagine you can just add more layers for a pp pad. I also use flannel, and no PUL.

what did you use for a closure?

Sorry, I didn't see your question til now. I used long pronged metal snaps. I have a hand held snap press from my mom (it's probably at least 20yrs old).

I've heard good things about this tool: http://www.snapsource.com/store/aboutourtools.php

I get my metal snaps from the same place, too.

I think some mamas have sewn velcro as their closure.

This is the basic pattern I used. I just adjusted the thickness and length for the pp time. I used snaps for the closure though I am sure velcro would work, too.

Happy sewing!

I wanted to share a link to a great site that has downloadable patterns for various kinds/sizes of pads. It also has suggestions and recommendations for fabrics depending on what you need

I ended up buying the Fern and Fairy pattern and a pair of snap pliers. I've made 5 so far, I'll probably make at least one more just to have an even number. The pattern was great, easy to sew, and they look pretty They are rather large - but then I thought the same thing about the disposable type I used last time.

I used flannel for the top, fleece for the backing, and old receiving blankets for the fill. Everything was from my stash. The only things I bought were the pattern (which is for all types of mama cloth) and the pliers.

i just bought the F & F contour pattern as well. I really like the idea of using cotton batting for padding (which is optional). Everything I needed was in my stash, except no-pill fleece for backing, which I bought. So far, so good! We are pretty sure we are done having babies so I am hoping to create a large, sturdy stash of pads. (I think I have had maybe 8 periods in as many years, with all the babies/ pregnancies)
