Safety of Enamelware? uses

I am looking at purchasing some enamelware.

The supplier has the ol' coffee percolator (which I have no idea to use), plates, bowls, cups, knives, cooking ware...you name it...they have it!

It is so pretty and relatively inexpensive...but how SAFE is it?

Thank you!

Of what I've heard of enamelware, it's pretty safe. I know I read somewhere that the enamel on pots & pans is fused glass, not sure about dinnerware. I have heard though that some of the colors that is used in the glass might cause concern. If it is safe, it would be an awesome, inexpensive, unbreakable source of dinnerware.

I assume its safe - its what we've had/eaten off of my entire life... my mom still has our original stuff that her & my dad bought when they first started building our house... 27 years ago! And it still looks great. My dad bought new stuff when he got the house back 7 years ago, and I have to say, if/when we move out, I can totally see us buying it for us. Its great stuff... and it is actually possible to microwave on it

ETA: Oh, we just have the standard blue speckled stuff, though I know they do make green & red now too, and possibly other colors as well.
