Per pound please and what area of the country do you live in?
Thanks!

Wouldn't it depend on the cut?

Not beef, but I pay $5.99/lb for ground buffalo and 7.99/lb for buffalo flat iron or flank. (I may be remembering incorrectly for the second, but the ground is definite.) Anyway, Whole Foods Market, Philadelphia metro region.

We boy ours in 50-lb boxes, and it comes out to about $6/lb. When we buy individual cuts they vary, anywhere from $7/lb to $12/lb. These are direct from farmer prices, in Maryland. At Whole Foods you can pay up to $25/lb for fancier cuts.

When we buy a whole beef, it works out to less than $3/lb after paying the ranch and the butcher. Buying in small portions, I get local grassfed ground beef at my co-op for $4.99/lb, but the steaks are 3 or 4 times that much (I don't buy them, when our beef runs out we go steak-less, and that's one of the great things about buying a whole or half beef at at time, you get great steaks for the same low price as ground and stew meat).

ETA: I'm in N. California.

When I buy grassfed ground beef its $5 a pound... I'm in OH. We've bought the steaks once or twice and didn't really care for them... kinda tough like eating deer... and so we figure, we might just as well eat deer and save ourselves the money

We buy a quarter each year and it's about $4 per lbs. I find it to have more flavor than feedlot beef and personally our steaks have been super tender (we don't grill them to more than medium ever)

I buy it by the cut every week and the cheapest is ground for $5.99/lb. Hangar steak, skirt steak, flank steak are all 12.99, and they just keep going up from there.

$3.50/lb for local organic grassfed ground beef, if 50 lbs is bought (I shared with friends). Steaks can be $7-$21 / lb depending on the cut.

Thanks so much!
We just ordered 60 lbs. and are getting ground beef, sirloin steaks, brisket and stew meat for $5.50 per lb.
We are in the Southwest and hubby thinks we are only getting an okay deal, I think it is a great deal!

I buy 1/4 - 1/2 side of beef at a time. I generally pay $1.75-$2.00 lb. hanging weight plus $.45-$.50 lb. processing and $35 for the slaughter fee. For what I take home (just meat, not counting the bones and tallow), it works out to be about $4.00 lb.

I live just outside of Portland Oregon and I generally find families on Craig's List who are selling part of a cow they raised themselves rather than buying from an established farm which tends to be more expensive.

5.99 for ground, in the SF bay area.

it's about $4 per lbs..Just find this Grass-Fed Cattle..It looks good.

We pay $3.75/lb but we buy a quarter of a cow. So it's like 120 or 130 lbs including steaks, roasts, and usually about 30 lbs of ground beef.

I live in northern California and we can get grass-fed ground beef for $1.99/pound. It's cheaper than Safeway or Costco beef

Fancier cuts are MUCH more. I think that fillets are $16/pound... something like that. Ribeyes are $13. All worth is though, they are tasty :

OMG! WHERE are you getting it for that?! That's awesome!
I also live in no. Cali. My husband works for UNFI so I can get organic prarie grass fed ground beef wholesale - but that's still 6.19/lb. They also sell the same stuff at BelAir/Raley's for 6.59/lb. In general, I'm finding it CRAZY hard to find at all - let alone at a good price. In anyone in the foothills of Cali wants to throw some good sources my way I'd be forever grateful!

Witchypants, BriarPatch Market in Grass Valley sells local, grassfed ground beef (Nevada County Grassfed Beef) for $4.99/lb. at the meat counter. Some of their beef is from Five Dot, which is grain-finished, but the ground beef in the butcher case (where they get it for you, not the self-serve case, not sure about any ground beef they have pre-packaged) is 100% grassfed.

To buy local at a farmer's market here, it's around $4/lb

Ya know I've been meaning to check out BriarPatch for too long now I must go!

What about cuts other than ground beef? It seems that's all I can ever find....Does anyone in No. Cali want to share their sources? I'm totally at a loss for finding better cuts at a half-way decent price....

If you want to come to humboldt county, you can get grass-fed beef at almost every store, but Eureka Natural Foods has the $1.99 ground beef.
