Maya Wrap problem

Thread Starter
My DS2 is almost 3 weeks old. I'm already finding my Maya wrap very useful. I used it with my DS1 for almost 2 years.
but I'm having a problem that I don't remember having when I used it with DS1. The fabric is overlapping itself in the rings. So for example, when I go to tighten the bottom/back rail, that edge of the fabric folds over the the other fabric in the ring, and it gets all bunched up. And then I can't adjust it to be just right.
What am I doing wrong?

Also, the shoulder cap keeps sliding up my shoulder onto my neck, which of course is uncomfy.

I've bought some gauzy fabric to make a wrap, but I need to get together with my friend who has the serger to finish the edge before I can use it. In the meantime, it's just me and my Maya.

Help?

I don't know- I assume you are threading it again when this happens (starting on each side of fabric with pocket facing you bunch up in small fan-like pattern)? Th ring- is it up high on your shoulder with a small cap formed on your shoulder when you put baby in? Do you make it quite tight and small before putting baby in so you don't need to adjust it much when baby is in?
Good luck!

Hi! I had this same problem with my maya wrap when LO was about that age. He is eight weeks old now and (after so much practice) we don't have this problem anymore. I think it's just part of the learning curve with the ring sling. You have to do it wrong many times and bit by bit you figure out how to perfect it. (And maybe learn all over again with each baby? ) Adjusting my sling still isn't as easy for me as it is for the women in the "how to" videos, but it's easier each day.

What works for me is rearranging the fabric in the rings when it is already threaded. I put the sling on (without LO in it) and tug on each corner of the tail, in order to see if it's threading through and adjusting the pocket properly. If it isn't, I part the rings and tug the material over to the right spot.

Then I place the rings higher up on my body than I'll actually want them when I'm done. I always use my left shoulder, so I will put the rings up high, almost on top of my shoulder. Then I place baby in the sling farther to the right than I'll want him in the end. That way when I pull the sling snugly around him, the rings drop to the correct position and he is in the center of my chest. (this is for the tummy to tummy hold)

Make sure you are spreading out the shoulder part so it fits sort of like a cap sleeve, if you're not already. That way it should be impossible for it to slide up and bother your neck during use.

HTH!
