would these work for wipes?

I was just at the dollar store for some birth supplies and they have these little 'baby washclothes' that I was thinking might work for wipes. (plus they are 4 for a dollar... which is a major motivator!) They are soft, the only thing is that they seem very little, what do you think? Anyone use anything similar? How many do I need again? Thanks.

Baby Washcloths

We've mostly used regular washcloths, but I've used baby ones too and they were fine. If you invest $6 or $8 and it doesn't work out for you for some reason it won't be the end of the world. A lot of people use washcloths of either variety and are happy with them.

I used regular wash cloths. Just helps to have a bit more size for those messy changes. The little ones will work well for non fecal diapers.

I use them for pees and poops and they work just fine. Use two for poops.

I got baby wash clothes from the dollar store to use as wipes and they were horrible. I didn't realize it when I bought them, but they were 100% polyester. I got rid of them quick because they were pretty useless and wouldn't absorb water or wipe poop at all. If they have any cotton in them, they'll probably work better though... hand-me-down washclothes from friends that were like 80/20 poly/cotton were usable.

I used those, they are ok not the greatest. I loved WAHM wipes but these were good for the bulk so I had a lot on hand. I also used old cut up cotton T-shirts and that way you can make them as big or small as you need to.

I personally didn't like the small washcloths as wipes. They were okay for tiny newborns as long as there was no poo. I did keep a few in the case of redness or sensitivity since they are so soft. I use regular washcloths (I get mine at Target for $4 for 12 in big stacks tied with ribbon).

I did the exact same thing! The polyester ones are horrible, they roll up as you wipe. Awful for poopy changes. But give them a try, if they don't work as wipes, use them as washclothes. That's what I did, they worked ok for a washcloth in the tub when my baby was small.

ditto what others have said about size and fabric content. my only other thought was that u could use them as diaper liners if u didnt like them as wipes.

I bought some baby washcloths for wipes and use them on my almost 3 year old, 1 for pee, usually 2 for poop...sometimes 3! They are the same size as my bumgenius cloth wipes. They are not as soft, that is my only complaint. I think they were 99c for 4, so it wasn't a big investment if they didn't work out.

Buy flannel, wash it, and cut it up into 6"x8" rectangles. Cheaper, thinner, and 100% cotton. You can even fit a bunch of them into a travel wipes container. You dont need to finish the edges, either. They will fray badly for several washes, but then stop for good. It will take you about 10 minutes to make a gigantic stack

Mine are 80/20 and I wet them with warm water before wiping. No rolling issues whatsoever.

That is what I use. They work the best for getting into creases.

I have some baby washcloths that are Circo brand, I think, and work very well. They don't do the rolling up thing, so they are probably not 100% poly. I'd definitely check the fabric content to be sure! You may find good deals elsewhere, too, including clearance racks in big box stores.

nak
I'd say first check the fabric content, then buy a pack, wash them, and see how they survive. Friends just gave us a huge stacks of organic 100% cotton ones that started rooling up and lost their shape after 1 wash. They are now unusable... So fibre content is not even a good indicator.
