I had a prenatal too recently. Weight is +16 lbs. BP 110/70. Baby's hr was like 147 I believe. Glucose was 100. I forget what my iron was but it's low, however, I vomit the iron pills the midwife gave me. Urine is negative for sugar or protien. I forget what I am measuring, she didn't say. Probably close to normal. Luckily the midwife was right and my baby appears to be growing into my big belly. I haven't gotten that much bigger in the past month or so.

I can't take the Iron pills either. Two weeks ago, my Hemoglobin was at 10, so I made an effort to eat more Iron-rich foods and brought it up a bit. Dr said that it's *fine* for me NOT to take the Iron pills, that it is coming up, and as long as I keep eating Iron, it's OK. They like it to be between 11-14.

Vomit and constipation. I hate Iron pills.

Yeah, this was chewable iron that is supposed to be easier on your tummy, HA! I'm going to try Floradix next. I do eat iron rich foods but I also eat a lot of dairy lately...we are broke and dairy is cheap. What can I say.

I do NOT have gestational diabetes : My home birth plans can now continue on. I am so thrilled. And, today, even after the awful test yesterday morning, I'm not spilling ANY sugar in my urine I'll still watch my sugars, but I'm no longer stressing about carbs.

My weight is up about 15 lbs? Up nothing from 2 weeks ago. I'm measuring 34 weeks (at 31 weeks). Heart rate, blood pressure, etc all good. My iron's a bit low too - 10.3, so I'm going to order some Floradix. Meanwhile I started taking alfalfa and I'm taking my prenatal vitamins instead of DD's chewables (which don't upset my stomach ever, but also don't have the iron that's in my prenatals).

We scheduled my home visit for Tuesday July 7th (35 weeks).

I'm sorry Genomics... what-ifs are just the worst thing since there is no way to resolve the scenario. And while everyone knows that intellectually, it's not something that intellect can help with.

I know I have so many what-ifs from my c/s and vbac (my history is complicated labor with uncomplicated c/s and easy recovery followed by an uncomplicated labor with complicated vaginal birth and year long physical recovery)... looking ahead to this birth I feel like a bouncy ball. One minute up, one minute down, one minute off the wall, with no clue where I'll land next.

YAY Flower!!!!!!!!!!!

Iron- cast iron cookware! It's not the most bio-available of course, but it's the sort of thing you can find for cheap or free and it does increase the iron content of anything cooked in it with no effort on the part of the chef.

I've gained 28 lbs so far - BAM! That came out of nowhere. With DS2 I only gained 24 and that took work. I guess I'm well on my way to a 40 lbs gain. I'm ok with that.

Geo, I'm sorry. Second guessing sucks. There is nothing that can be done about it so I'm not sure why your CP would bring that up.

We recently bought a cast iron pan too for DS2's low iron. That thing is HEAVY!

I grew up on cast iron pans! My parents are coming down from Canada in 3 weeks - maybe they could bring one for their visit?! I'll ask them! They'll be here until mid-August, so that would take me through the rest of the pregnancy. And, it's been used for years, so it's perfectly "cured" or whatever it is they call it Thanks for reminding me, Wombat!

Flower - wow, that's great news! Good for you!!!!!

Jilian - Are you going to be OK mentally gaining so much more weight with this pregnancy? I always think that I would be OK if I gained 35-40 lbs, but when my weight goes up faster than previously, I get a little worried. So far, I've gained more with each pregnancy, but the babies have come earlier and earlier, so I've never reached my full potential!

Spring Sun - your work is amazing, I wish I lived close by.
My week so far has been ok, I started an earn as you learn class at my local pregnancy center, my only problem is its a group format, and nobody wants to talk to anyone, I feel like a dinosaur for being the oldest, having the most kids and being the furthest along in their pregnancy, but I am hoping to at least get some clothes for baby since I had given away everything after my last baby.

My iron levels were dangerously low, but I am relieved that VA has finally filled my prescription for ferrax 150 forte, has anyone taken it before?

Other than that, my children are learning to read my facial expressions of when I am going through a contraction and need to be left alone for a while (wish I could use that face even after the birth lol), and baby is definitely a jiggler.

There is so much going on with everyone!!!

With DH out of town for a few days I found I had way too much to do and so the house has suffered. I need to get this house cleaned by Saturday for the two parties we are throwing. And it is BAD I have a spare entertainment center in my living room right now, I am ready to give the stupid thing away (though I would love to get a little cash for things). UGH!!!!

I went to the midwife yesterday (I hate the drive, but love the city, and it works!). I am still not up any weight (I think depending on starting I am +1lb or -3lbs), I never thought that would seem like a bad thing but I feel like I should be. My midwives are fine with it though which is nice. Babe is measuring at 33 weeks (I am 31) and she told me zombie is going to be long, which makes me happy since I was a long baby too.

I also found out I passed my GDT!!! I was so lucky my midwives let me test after eating a regular breakfast instead of drinking the orange crap. I was nervous about how my system would react to that since I have been eating minimal sugar lately. I also found out my iron is good.

Overall things just seem to keep moving ahead! If I can get this house clean and through my friends out of town wedding I will feel much calmer yeah right

Been an insane busy couple weeks. My grandmother got out of the hospital only to return a day later. The bypass that they did in her leg isn't working and she's probably going to lose part of it below the knee. She's debating on having her leg aputated or just going into hospice and passing away. I support her no matter what, but the rest of my family is trying to guilt her into living longer. She's tired! She's lived a really long life and if she wants to go, she should have the right to.

My cousin found out she's having a baby boy, and the family was a little disappointed since we have like eleventy boys in the family right now. Friday my youngest cousin (in my generation) is graduating from high school and the whole freaking family is going. I can't wait to see everyone.

I made my payment to Christine at esbaby for my custom NB and small fitteds, plus some covers and a wet bag. I just have to actually make it to the PO to mail off the fabrics I've picked out! I can't wait to see all the goodies she makes for meeeeeeeee.

Last night I did a bad bad thing, I moved furniture. I know I know, bad mama. But dammit! I wanted my room a certain way. I pulled all the diapers out of their boxes, washed two loads of baby clothes, and folded and put everything in its place. I'm feeling very nesty lately. Its nice. I also gave away a bunch of goodies on my local freecycle.

The last on my to do list is keep an eye out for a used dishwasher, buy some aluminum pans and make casseroles to freeze. I'm thinking lasagna, tai chicken baked pasta, and some sort of veggie dish. Maybe eggplant parm. mmmm

Oh and I met a lady at Trader Joe's yesterday who asked me if I was 26. Hahah, I was like, I'm about to be 32! She couldn't believe it. Made me feel really good.

My big boy is out of school for the rest of the summer. They are amazing little creatures my two. They are so excited for their new baby.

I am too!

(p.s. Linds - Watermelon has iron in it! )

Watermelon has Iron in it? I seriously eat TWO big bowls of watermelon every single night before bed! I think that may very well be my single largest Iron contribution for the day then

I like watermelon because it keeps away the bloat.

Medical supply stores, too. I still keep a supply as disposable changing pads for poo diapers...especially when we're talking newborn blow-outs that get all over their/your clothes, chux enable you to change on any surface (bed, couch, floor, on your knees in the front seat of your hopefully stationary car).

Since this is my first, everything is so exciting to buy. I just ordered a bunch of onsies and some other stuff from Kate Quinn organics a couple of hours ago. I even found a coupon code and got 15% off my order. Now, I just have to wait patiently for my order to come in a couple day!!

Geo, with DS1 I gained 53 lbs so I've been on the big side before too. I'm hoping to come in somewhere in the middle. It does make me feel weird to be gaining so fast now but I'm keeping calm about it and trying to be a little more active. As long as I don't end up with 50 lbs or more again I'll be ok. I'm in a wedding 3 mos pp as my sister's maid of honor!

Watermelon has iron?! YIPPEEEEE! I've easily eaten 5 whole watermelons this pregnancy. I eat it every night and a lot of times during the day too. It helps with my heartburn.

Watermelon:

When I used to give blood, when I wasn't pregnant, I was reading up on one of their foods to eat fact sheets, and watermelon was on there. I was so stoked!

I dice it and put it in salads, wrap good salami around it, much on it for dessert. Its sooooo good.

Great idea to use up any extras.

Sounds like there have been lots of good news and good test results this week!

Today I come looking for reassurance. I lost a dime-sized chunk of skin on the bottom of my foot this afternoon on a finishing nail in a doorjamb. Not sure how the nail got pushed up, but it is now firmly pounded down. However, my foot bled really badly. For a minute, I thought I might need to go get a stitch or two because it was bleeding so fast and so much. I did finally get it to stop, but now I'm getting worried that it's going to get infected.

But:
It bled. That flushes everything away.
I washed it well immediately after it happened.
I put neosporin on it once the bleeding slowed/almost stopped.
I bandaged it up well to keep the dirt out. (I'd rather let a little more air get to it, but it's the bottom of my foot!)

So please tell me I'm crazy and that this silly foot is NOT going to get infected or cause problems. There's no reason for me to worry about having to take antibiotics or go to the doctor, right?

Your body is made perfectly to deal with this - cave men never would have got very far if we couldn't cope with cuts. maybe when you change the bandage clean it with some tea tree? I might be the worst person to ask, you're lucky if a cut gets cleaned in this house and none of us have ever had an infection or anything...

Can you still walk on it ok?
Sarah, ouch! I think it sounds like you handled it perfectly. I hope it feels better soon.

I cannot believe I still have 10 (potentially 12) more weeks of growing left. I feel so massive already and I'm not even sure how my skin will manage to stretch anymore. I feel like I'm already the same size I was when DS2 was born. My poor stomach. If I keep growing at this rate it will surely burst. And it is so HOT out here in FL.

ITA. Especially the not cleaning cuts part. Cracking me up!
