Yet another GUESS THE BREED thread

We have been going through a mini aussie rescue to find our new dog. Here and here is an adorable dog they have but they are not sure of the breed. She does have the black tri aussie coloring and is in the mini size range. Currently 16 lbs. at 7 months, probably will top out at 20 lbs. Very smart and friendly and that is the most important part for us. But still, we are curious as to breed.
Does this look like any breed you know?

Awww, she looks really cute. We had a dog a lot like that when I was growing up and she was the sweetest thing. She was probably about 25lbs and probably had a little poodle in her 'cause her hair was curlier, but same coloring. I doubt if she had any aussie in her since this was in 1970-something and they weren't very popular (at least in my hometown) then. She was just a garden variety mutt, but very sweet. She had a litter mate with different coloring. I think it was white and brown. Can't really remember clearly. I'd say that girl in your link looks like a Heinz 57 to me.

Yep, and no way to find out since she was a street stray. We are ready to love her regardless of pedigree :

Ditto. Maybe some spaniel in there too? Floppy ears, rounded muzzle, big feet, curly hair... and some terrier for the size and coloring?

she totally looks like an aussie and i was involved in showing and breeding aussies for about 5 years during my teens. it's in her head shape, if she had spaniel she'd have a more dome shaped head and larger lips.

i'm not really into the mini aussies, i think it's just a catchy name for a few breeders breeding smaller aussies and i hate it that they are sold as "apartment aussies" as if the smaller size makes them less active

that being said, i LOVED my aussie and my next dog will be one for sure, WITH their tail

also, her ears are the classic aussie triangle, the corner of the ear should just reach the inner corner of her eye, per the breed standard.

spaniels have much longer droopy ears... like this

not trying to be picky... i just know my aussies

She also looks a lot like one of my current dogs. He's about 30-35lbs and probably should be 28. He's solid black, but same shape of head and I just checked his ears and they do just reach the inner corner of the eye. I think he's probably part border and I don't know what else — something smaller and even noisier!

Thanks mamas! I was seeing spaniel and not wanting to see spaniel lol. My little sister was bitten by a cocker as a kid so I'm a little spaniel shy. I hope we can meet her soon!

I agree the mini aussies have gotten a little too popular. Hence the rescue org. has a lot of dogs of various mixes from breeders just trying to make a smaller aussie. We saw one that looked like it was mixed with pomeranian (prick ears and longer coat) and another that was guessed at king charles spaniel mix. We had a kelpie/border collie before and she was great, busy, but great. She was over 40 lbs. though and this time we wanted something a bit smaller but still with some of the same characteristics. And I want one with a tail too.
