Sounding calm and okay is not always the best way to get help.

People who say you should always act calm when trying to communicate seem to me sometimes to be being one-sided at the moment. With some people sounding calm is good because it shows you're not antagonizing the person you're talking to, but but other times they don't think your situation is serious enough to warrant attention if you aren't upset, and they won't listen unless you are, and they won't give you much sympathy for how bad you feel.

I think I know what you mean. I am a hider. I can be very depressed and no one knows it because I'm smiling and getting through my day.

If it is something you would like to talk about more, who isn't believing you?

Yup. I know exactly what you mean. s

Acting calm does seem to be useful when you're feeling angry, rather than being aggressive, but hiding sadness just gets one ignored IME.

HMMM I think I know what you mean. I think I may have been depressed with PPD for many months and maybe did now even know it until just recently. I was the type to try to hide it without even knowing it. I also struggled with anger. I had no idea that anger and anxiety were symptoms of depression. I read in another thread that breastfeeding might be a factor because of low progesterone?? Seems like I need to do more research. Hope you are able to get the help you need and empathy from your loved ones. Good luck.
