Ceramic Dishes

I dont really know where to start this thread, but I have been in need of a new dish set for a while. I have the opportunity to buy a full set of ceramic glazed dishes at the thrift store tomorrow am for $50.

I am concerned about possible hazards, chemicals leaching out of them, etc...

What do you guys know? Is ceramic safe, is it the worst? What is the best? What about Corel?

A lot of ceramics have lead in the glazes. I'd look up the brand before buying.
