One week GF/CF, what should I be feeling?

Tomorrow late morning completes 1 week GF and DF.

Should I be feeling any different? Did any of you feel any different?

After reading that gluten and casein turn into opoids and make you addicted, I expected some sort of withdrawal.

Does it MEAN anything that I feel 100% the same?

I don't know. I don't think everyone has the opioid issue, I think I do but DH and DD don't. A lot of people take quite a while to see a change with gluten-free, I am at one end of the spectrum in that it only took me a day and a half to feel better. And I did feel slightly jittery the first day gfcf--not incapable of doing stuff, but a bit edgy, noticeable even at the time when I wasn't really sure what, if anything, to expect. The general rec is 3 months for gluten. And I think some folks just notice physical stuff clearing up, maybe low-level skin issues or stuff like that, and that's often gradual. Or some people with lots and lots of digestive issues need something like SCD to see an improvement.

That's a huge range of answers, but I'm throwing out the range of things I've read about. Unfortunately, it seems to take individual trial-and-error to see what will happen for each person.

I did not have the opiod issue and I did not feel any different going gfcf. No withdrawl at all. Over several weeks though, my fungal dandruff and athlete's foot went away.
I am having malabsorption issues, though, and I am currently being checked for chronic giardia, so I have other reasons for nutrient deficiencies.

I'm not even sure gluten and casein are an issue for me to begin with. It just seemed like something worth trying.

Given that you're in this forum, it seems like a good idea to me. They seem to be problems for a lot of people for a lot of very different reasons. I don't expect it to be forever for us, certainly not the dairy, maybe not the gluten, but it's hastened my healing process, and I think it can do that for people who have different issues than I do as well.

Tanya, I am here in this forum, but when I read and read and read, I feel like I don't really belong here. My problems are tiny next to the rest of you.

I think what I have going on is mostly yeast. And I think I have some chemical pathways to detox, but attacking the yeast first I hope will help with everything else.

I believe that I felt nothing different after going GF/DF.

I gave up dairy in 3/08 and wheat in 7/08. I lost a lot of weight, but I also gave up egg and peanut, which were major sources of protein. I did not need to lose any weight.

I can't afford to lose any weight.

I've given up dairy twice before for several months at a time. No change then.

This is the first time experimenting with GF.

I have never felt any different 1 week into GF/CF elim diets. Now, at 2.5 weeks into it, I have noticed: 1) a lot less bloating (not really weight loss, just less puffiness) and 2) not eating dair or gluten has totally opened my palate to all these other really great foods-- I am discovering leafy greens for the first time! I love eating so much more now-- everything tastes yummier with gluten and casein off the table.

For me the bloating went away as well. And I was able to get off pain meds, because it was causing back spasms for me (something I totally didn't expect).

I felt better very quickly--however I have been doing a trial (don't ask why) and a big thing I didn't know was related that has come back is my pains in my body--imflammation in my knees and joint pains everywhere--they were completely gone when I was off gluten--not sure how that works--but i would give it a good couple month trial--I have like 10 things that cleared up off glute---not sure how they're related but I feel a LOT better off gluten (so why I am eating it? I dunno- almost done) I haven't gained any of the 20lbs back that I lost going off gluten--but my tummy is WAY more bloated--as in inches are back--weird.

I TOTALLY notice the extra bloating on gluten as well. It's not really an issue of poundage, more of bloating. I Think my intestines can't digest gluten as well so it just sits there and bloats me up, even though I don't gain that much extra weight from eaiting gluten. I feel so much more slender when I am not eating it, even if I eat other carbt stuff like those Enjoy Life cookies I am ADDICTED to...

Not sure what your health path has been before this, but have you ever explored adrenal fatigue? Seems like there's a lot of overlap for a good number of people between gut health and adrenal fatigue and for some of us, detox pathways. My DH has the first two going on, I think his gut is not good and his adrenals are horrible, but he doesn't have detox issues at all, just a nice quirk of how his body works. And he has a totally different set of reasons why his adrenals are trashed, completely different from mine, which has been important in how we address our problems.

I find this forum to have a lot of criss-crossing of paths, people with some issues in common and some not, but I'm really enjoying the mix of ideas, and the new ideas we can bring each to the areas we're already knowledgeable and experienced with. So although your issues may not seem to match 100%, maybe something will click.

Tanya, yes, I am trying to explore all of the issues and see what I can rule out as being involved.

Bloating is my main symptom. It seems high up in my system -- stomach, not intestines. It happens the second I eat, not later on in digesting. So I figure HCl and enzymes. But I know that gut health impacts those.

I'm feeling like yeast is a major issue, so that is the next thing I am going to tackle. I'm preparing myself for that now. I want to see what happens when that is addressed.

2 weeks now GF and DF, and not a single bit of change.
