Help with Wooly Wormhead Beret Pattern

Alright, so I finished the Baby Rollin' Beret from Wooly Wormhead. It looks great except for one thing...I've got the I-cord on the wrong side!! So, I like the hat fine the way it is, but what did I miss in order to get the I-cord on the inside?

Erm. Purl i-cord on the inside, or knit?

I think that when you started i-cording, you started knitting from the wrong end of the needle- so you had three stitches on the needle and knitted the stitch with yarn attached first. That would do it.
