Talk to me about how many covers I need

I cd my 1st baby so I don't know why I can't wrap my mind around this.
I'm slowly building my newborn stash. My diapers will consist of a fairly even mix of pockets or all in ones, pre folds, and fitteds. It may be heavier on the fitteds b/c I like them the most.

I don't like PUL covers so I am thinking I need a several good peices of wool. My sister is a knitter and I know she will knit me at least two or three. how much more do I need and what do people like?

I don't have a ton of money to spend.

ps.-if anyone wants to recomend inserts that would be helpful too.

if you are using fitteds to contain nb poo, i wouldnt think you would need much wool. maybe 2-3 covers or soakers/longies/whatever. they grow out of them so quickly anyway. my dd is only 9 weeks and already growing out of her smalls .... she's a chunk though at 14 lbs lol.

six per size/per child is usually the standard suggestion.
I am sure you can get away with 4 or 5.

personally 6 served me well.

According to the formula I developed to answer that question for myself, 1 cover for every 6 prefolds or every 9 fitteds. Maybe a few more if you're mostly trifolding.
