what weird/odd foods does your child like?

or even liked as a baby?

the thread in parenting about Hot Sauce reminded me of this.

when dd was a toddler i had others tell me to rub onion on her tongue if she didnt speak correctly.

i had to tell them that in my dd's books that would not be a punishment.

my dd is a raw onion freak. she is 6 now, but she discovered it at 10 months and looooved it. i didnt give her v. much then but now when i am cooking she will walk past and happily pick up a quarter of a yellow, red or white onion and EAT em!!!!

so what does your child eat that would surprise someone else?

Crablegs. It was 3 of the 4's first foods, and they LOVE them.

WHY OH WHY did I start them on something so expensive? LOL!

Grated Cheddar and strawberry jam sandwiches. Shudder.
Weirdly, it's one of DH's favourites but he has never eaten it in front of DS - must be genetic.

I have a cheese ball recipe that is covered in strawberry jam. I am guessing it tastes similar. It also has bacon bits in it. Strange combination, but it does taste good!

My kids eat a lot of things that are not considered to be "kid food".

DS #1 LOVES asparagus. He is also partial to avocados and black olives. That's probably not so strange to some of you, but people around here look at me like I am crazy when I order asparagus for him in a restaurant.

DS #2 LOVES lettuce/salad greens of any kind. He eats raw salad with every meal...no dressing.

Both of them hate any sort of condiment. No ketchup, mustard, mayo, etc.

HA HA, yes to that. DS's favorite foods are scallops, calamari, crab and lobster. DD loves salmon and halibut. And they are not light eaters (we went through 2 pounds of salmon last night and tonight is king crab legs). What will we do when they're teens and eating us out of house and home?

Mine don't eat any 'weird' foods, but DS is obsessed with veggies - cauliflower, artichokes, peas, broccoli, asparagus, the whole 9. Has been since he was tiny. Oh, and tomatoes (although they are a fruit).

DS was that way too until he discovered Newman's Own Light Lime Vinaigrette.

Sushi rolls. But that's entirely our fault. (We make them at home and use smoked salmon and crab sticks and avocado and cucumber...so no raw fish because we're just not that secure when it comes to food safety!)

That doesn't seem so weird...maybe the part where they dip the rolls in soy and wasabi is the truly weird part. The kids they dig the wasabi...

Whale! Now before you go crazy, DH is from a small Carribean island and they have for centuries used whales as food and they use everything and hunt them in small boats not commercial fishing at all. They are only allowed two a year and the whole island shows up and they all share it. They then send some home for relatives in the states. DD2 has eaten itsince she was a small child. It always freaks people out when she tells them her favorite food is whale.

LOL... I lived in Alaska for four years, and eating moose or mountain goat was common. I come back to Ohio and people look at me strange when I say how good it was!
