Smelly Nikky's - Help!

Only in month 3 of cloth diapering. I just switched to Nikky's night trainers (instead of pull ups) for my 4 yo dd who is potty trained cept at night. She still has more wet nights than not. Anyways, she's been wearing them about 2 weeks. DD #1, #2, DH and I all sleep in fam bed and this morning when we woke up, there was a HORRIBLE smell. I assumed it was the baby's diaper (had burritos for dinner and she was gassy all night). But no - the smell was from DD#1's Nikky's. I don't know how to describe it - not a normal urine smell. Very, very sharp. I washed Nikky's today 2x plus extra rinse smell. It helped, but there is still a funk about them. Any ideas what is causing the smell to be so bad all the sudden? Did I do something to the diapers (I launder them with DD#1 diapers = cold pre-soak with det, hot wash with det, warm rinse and 2 dryer cycles)? They also leaked the night before, which was a first as well. Could she just be peeing too much for them?

Thanks for any advice. Back in pull ups until I figure out what to do with them.:

What kind of detergent are you using?

I do notice that my 2 yo's pee just stinks more now, but since this is a new thing, and you've also experienced recent leaking...I tend more to think it might be some kind of laundering or detergent problem. How old are the trainers?

I usually use either ECOS free and clear or Arm and Hammer Dye Free/Sensitive Skin (on occasion, when I forget to use the ECOS), but now that I think about it, I think I did do an "experimental" load with just soapberries a few days ago. I wonder if that affected them somehow. They are only about 3 weeks old, but I only bought 2 pair, as I wash CD every other day. The soapberries seem to work well with getting the regular dipes for DD#1 clean and as everything else we have is organic or natural fiber, I felt better about less chemicals.

Can these be stripped in the way regular diapers are? Could it be some weird interaction of laundering them with the hemp/organic diapers?
