Ergo/mei tai issues

I'm still having trouble with the Ergo. Anthony (3.5mos) only tolerates sitting in it (legs around me) for a little while. And I can feel him squeezing with his legs the whole time, like he's trying to bring his legs together. He will go in froggy-legged, but seems so high that way-I like that I can reach him with a kiss easier, but he seems unstable that way, and I can't put him in a back carry like that. Should I do something to stretch his legs out? Or is this normal at this age?

He's probably not comfortable - you can try to have one leg out and one leg in.....the infant insert was designed for newborn up to 4-6 months!

I was going to suggest the one-leg-out thing too! Also, 3-4 months is a notoriously difficult time to wear your little one. I had a really hard time with everything I tried. They are just waking up and seeing the world a bit more, but they are still tired and sleep so often too. It's tricky, keep at it - things got easier for us after 4 mos.

No, that is normal. I did not start the back carry with my youngest until she was over 4 months old. You just need to give it a little more time.

If you don't have the insert, you might try using a rolled up towel on each side of him. I didn't have it, but my breasts are so big that they did the same thing, keeping her snug in the middle.

I found the same thing with my Ergo and the frog leg position...he just seemed unstable to me. In the mei tei, I wore him the exact same way but he was much more snug, I guess cause the fabric snugged into him more and also was higher up his back (well, up to his head, really). Do you have a mei tei (wasn't sure from your thread title)?

If not, the towel suggestion from a PP might help. Or I wonder could you use a band of fabric laid flat against your tummy/chest, baby on top, then Ergo, then tie the fabric around to give a bit more side coverage (kinda like you would tie the mei tei straps across baby's back/bum)? Or you could even put it over the Ergo, wrap around your front and tie behind your back. I have never tried this and am not endorsing it in any way , I am just thinking out loud.

Yeah, I have a mei tai, but it isn't as fast to put on as the Ergo, so I use it more around the house and the ergo when out and about. Hm. Wonder if I could retrofit my mt with waist buckles. Are those available at like Joanne's and Michaels? Or do they need to be special ordered?
