Pooping wasn't a "fear" of mine really, but definitely a dread, if that makes any sense

But then, in my childbirth class, the instructor said "push like you're pooping, in fact if you do poop, you're probably pushing right" so when I was pushing with my first, and I pooped a little, I remember saying "ooh, I must be pushing right!" and the nurse said "yep, you're doing great".
If you deliver in a hospital, they will put lots of chux pads under you, and the nurse or OB will use the top one to wipe away any...excrement...then pull it out and there will be a nice clean one right there already. They're very smooth at doing it, too! Trust me, these nurses have seen it all

In a home birth setting, things are even more relaxed, and it's not likely that you'll have bright lights spotlighting that area, so you might not even know that you pooped! In a pool, it might be hard to tell the difference between poop and mucous floating around in the pool, your attendant will just fish it out with a little net and not mention a thing.
And about my husband...I did ask him about it later, he said that he was so focussed on my vagina and seeing the baby's hair and later the head, that he didn't even notice my butt honestly! It's not that he didn't see it, he just didn't take special note of it.
Most women will have diarrhea naturally in early labor, but I didn't either time before, so both times I did poop while pushing, but it wasn't much at all.
AND, there's a bright side to all of this...the first post partum BM can be rather...unpleasant...so if you manage to poop it all out while pushing, then at least you won't have to deal with that first BM within hours of birth! Think positives, right?!
