I have a very weak back with lots of chronic pain, but I want to keep baby wearing with my new baby. With my son, the bjorn and the sling were painful, but when he got big enough the ergo was comfortable. Anyone with back problems/experience know the best way to wear a newborn? I am thinking I will use the ergo again when she is big enough, but don't know what to do until then. Thanks!

a larger bodied mei tai like a Kozy would wear similarly to an Ergo but is much better with teeny babies. and they are awesome for doing high back carries with a newborn (check out the website, www.kozycarrier.com for pics/instructions for a variet of ways to wear).
of course you could just get the infant insert for the Ergo, too, though from what i understand while it works with teeny newborns there's still a period in between when they are happy with the insert and when they are really big enough for legs out in the Ergo. mei tai's are easier during that phase when they don't like being froggied in but still can't spread their legs that wide because you can cinch the bottom.
you might also like a Beco Butterfly or a Calyx, which are structured carriers like the Ergo but have inserts built into the carrier making them easier and safer for wearing newborns in.

I have a bad back, too, and the Ergo is the best I've tried. I never used the infant insert, but my best friend has one and loves it.
