Sweet smelling sore?

Dusti has been acting kinda itchy around her back end for nearly 2 weeks. It came on kinda suddenly after I gave her some raw egg, so I was thinking possible allergy.

This also started approximately the same time I gave her a Frontline treatment so I was thinking maybe we should switch to Advantage instead next month or so.

The Frontline application was necessary because we had also recently been out in the woods = ticks/bugs, so that's another possible cause.

She's raw fed, minimal grain treat ingredients, no known food allergies. We've been avoiding egg to see if it would help.

Given all that, something is up with her tail. I noticed she was acting like it hurt when I brushed it the other day, but I thought the hair was just pulling. Tonight I brushed it again and found a sore. I cut the hair and shaved it down. It's mostly just red and a little scabby, not a real wound, except in one place that has oily yellow puss. There is no hair loss either.
What bothers me is that it seems to have an icky, almost sweet smell to it. Does that mean yeast?? It's not nearly as strong after I cut the hair and rinsed it off.

Kinda icky pictures

She can barely turn around to reach her tail, which tells me she didn't lick or chew it into this bad of a sore. She acts like it bothers her, it might be both itchy and sore at the same time. She licks at her hindquarters and just seems to say "ugh" about it and licks at the air, but sometimes she does put in the effort to stretch around and lick at it.

I know I can get her in at the Banifield vet, but I'm sure most of yall are aware that it's really not that great of a vet.

If I try to get in any of the others it will probably be nearly a week before we can get in. Now that I know about it, I don't want to wait.

I JUST had to take the cat to the vet barely a week ago. Ugh.

Any ideas what this might be?

Could just be hot spots. Do you think she had fleas before the Frontline application? Sometimes dogs can get flea allergy dermatitis which can progress to hot spots. Keeping the hair short like you've already done is the first thing to do. Making sure the fleas are off (Frontline) is the next thing to do. You could put a little neosporin or polysporin on, too. I think those are both okay, but you could doublecheck. I'm not sure about the sweet smell.

My dog would bite her tail when she had full anal glands.

I don't think it's yeast. I'd buy some hydrocortisone spray to help the itch.

I would wash the dog in a good antibacterial soap. taking care to rinse well. The maybe mix a drop of tea tree oil in with some neosporin and rub that into the wound. leave it uncovered to dry up. If you're getting a lot of thick puss out of it, it may need to be cleaned out and drained.
