Experience with Kwik Sew 3690 AIO pattern?

Hey, I'm pretty new to this board.

I just made my first all-in-one using the Kwik-Sew 3690 cloth diaper pattern, but I'm wondering if anyone's had any experience with this diaper. There are no gussets, so I'm a little worried about leaks and blowouts.

My baby's not due till November, so I was thinking of having a friend test it out before I make more, but I'm wondering if any of you have tried this pattern??

Hi! Your diaper looks great!! I have found that using gussets for AIO diapers can cause extra wicking (leakage of moisture to the outside). Anytime you have a seam that goes through the PUL layer, especially if using cotton thread, the moisture can with right to the outside quickly. When making AIO, I skip a gusset, and I also hide the elastic on the inside between the inner and outer layers so that there is no casing seam at all on the outside...if that makes any sense, lol.

I have not made the KS pattern, but I retailed Kwik Sew patterns in my store for many years and sold that pattern frequently. It was one of the early cloth diaper patterns. There is a fabric store here in Minneapolis that has a bunch of cloth PUL diapers and fitteds made from the Kwik Sew pattern on display by their cutting table. To me, they look a bit big for their sizes. But yours looks a lot better proportioned. (maybe it was just the person that sewed the ones at the shop by me)

My sewing advice is always, especially with cloth diapers, don't make more than a couple of anything until you try it out on your baby. You might not end up liking a pattern, or liking the pattern but not the fabric, or they take too long to dry, etc. Since you have your little bean coming in November, maybe try making a few from the KS pattern and a few from some other patterns, and then you'll have a nice stash to try out on that new little one.

I've always used a different pattern or ready-made diaper for my newborns and then used another for all the other sizes.

Do you mean, put the elastic in, but don't sew around it, so there's no casing? I could do that, it would save me a lot of steps, though the diapers might need to be shifted a little bit after each wash, but no biggie.

Thank you, it's so hard to hold back though, I want to make it all . That said, I was thinking about trying the VeryBaby pattern and otherwise just going with prefolds (I found some wool covers *very* cheap at the consignment store).
