The "breastmilk formula"!!!!!???? - Page 2

you are right, it IS lifesaving, and this is when it should be used - when there is no access to human milk ... and i think formula cans should say that it should be used only when a healthcare provider says so, and i think it should state that breastmilk is better.
i dont think its right that formula presents itself as an equal substitute to bmilk.

Our closest formula to breast milk.

Enfamil LIPIL is patterned after breast milk, with:

* A similar composition of easy-to-digest whole whey and casein proteins.*
* LIPIL, our blend of DHA and ARA (important fatty acids found naturally in breast milk) at comparable levels to breast milk.
Patterned after breast mile? ok but NOT breast milk
important fatty acids found naturally in breast milk? ok, but again NOT breast milk. and comparable, but NOT the real thing.

the thing that make me : is the way the word things in the advertisement! UGH!

for me close only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades!

i know that some mamas cant BF and i hope and pray every day that is can BF! but i agree with PP that the label should carry a warning. the mama that want to BF would already know that in their situation it is life saving and that breast is best. it would be more for the 'i just dont want to' or the ' its the same' kind of people.

i think there should be laws on how they are allowed to advertise!

Mom has the right idea.

Experts agree on the nutritional merits of breast milk. So patterning an infant formula after it seems like a good idea.
:Puke: OR they could say experts agree breast is best, but when that is not possable a formula with XYZ ... or something!

I don't undertand why the FDA or something doesn't step in for false advertisement... They must be skating dangerously close to that line saying it's equal to breast milk and certainly by calling it the breast milk forumla... it really is mind boggling.

I'm more offended by other pages on their website, like this:
http://www.enfamil.com/app/iwp/enfam...1&r=3422794134

Which claims their formula is "clinically proven* ... to improve** brain and eye development"

Yeah, it "improves" brain development compared to the damage done by their other formulas. Compared to normal, breast milk-fed babies, this formula lowers IQs by "only" 3 points according to their own studies. If they used, say, babies fed diet cola as their comparison, I'm sure they'd find even more "improvement."

The US has not signed the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes.

You can write to your local politicians insisting that we do sign it.
