When will you wash baby clothes/blankets?

I've been waiting and waiting and now I'm wondering why I'm waiting. Except that I realize I have this fear that if I buy the last remaining things like a crib mattress and some other big items that something will go wrong and there won't be a baby. I guess I'm afraid to take the little socks out of the cardboard and whatnot because then it's officially not returnable.

Anyone else waiting for a certain date, or have you already washed things?

I have a list prepared at home, and I think it's something like this:

34 weeks -- buy crib mattress online

35 weeks -- rearrange furniture (we're making our current room into a second living room and that's where the birth pool will be)
--wash baby potty out (it's been in the basement and is dusty)
--wash baby clothes/towels/carriers/sheets/hammock
--buy stuff for birth kit

36 weeks -- inflate birth pool and birthing ball
--clean like crazy
--install carseat
--hang up baby hammock

I bought nearly all of my baby textiles used (clothing, blankets, socks, etc), so I simply washed them when I got home. Everything in that regard is done and in a drawer. However, I still need to rearrange the spare bedroom to accomodate the birth tub, buy my birth kit and get a few more odds and ends. I'll probably do that stuff around 36-38 weeks.

I have already washed all the clothes I got/had. I have a ton of socks and hats and they are all washed. The only thing I am waiting for is the new crib bedding.

My birth kit is almost together. I have a few things left to get. I am 32 weeks and 4 days.

I need to rewash cloth diapers without detergent a few times

I've got lots and lots of clothes that a friend gave me. I went through and have about half in the dresser we found for the baby. Those clothes have all been washed now. I also had fun washing all the tiny socks she gave me.
I think I have all of the blankets washed that I have for him. My cousin's wife is sending me the duplicate flat diapers and thermal receiving blankets they have from their twins (she's 37 weeks along with their fourth boy). So, I'll need to wash those once they get here. I think that will be most of it.
I still need to wash a couple of carriers. I have most done, but have a few left. I think that's all. I might run the prefolds through one more time.
(oh, and I'm 33 weeks lol)

I'm thinking I need to do this stuff to create a welcomming space for db... mentally to get in the mindset that this thing is going to happen.

That being said I did regret washing all of ds babyshower things because it wasn't until after that I had real multiples Of things I didn't need. Wish I could have returned more and swapped the cash for things like AIO diapers or such.

I'm not sure when to wash mine either.

I already did mine and it is put away ready for the arrival. Still need to do the co-sleeper stuff but that can go in with a load of sheets closer to the actual date.
I still have some cloth diapers that need a few good washings as well as some blankets. I don't think I will do those until 38 week or so.

I've left all the tags on everything and kept all the receipts. I'm paranoid like that. I'll have my husband wash one or two outfits for each baby and a couple blankets and do the rest when we're home from the hospital.

I don't wash anything til baby comes home. It's only a load (or two), so it's pretty easy for me. I hate the smell of "stale" clothing

I've been washing (by sorted colors- along with our other laundry) as I sort out all of the clothes I've been slowly bringing down from the attic. I have one bin left to go through. I also have to figure out WHERE exactly to put all of the baby textiles. She'll share a closet with DD, but sleep in our room with us- so the changing pad, dipes, and some sleepers/onsies will probably need to go in one of my dresser drawers....gotta work on that- they are all stuffed! I also need to make room in the linen closet for cosleeper sheets, recieving blankets, spit rags etc. Isn't it funny how thinking about one task leads your mind into a spinning mess of all the other things sort of related to that first task, and then that leads to another and another...LOL. I really need to type out a stream of consciousness list so I can spare you all!

All the hand-me-downs and second hand items have been washed and put away. Bedding, blankets, boppy covers, slings, dipes etc will probably go into the wash a week or two before my due date since I like them to be freshly washed. And there's nothing like sun bleaching for dipes and fabrics you plan on having up against the babe.

I do have the sort of "bad luck" feeling sometimes though. As if being totally ready will cause some sort of problem. But I try to just move past that since there really isn't anything I can do about it, you know? If I had a lot of brand new items that could be returned for a hefty amount I might wait till closer to the birth or after the birth (some small items may not fit anyway, or may simply never get used)... but since everything I have is second hand there isn't that sort of option. If I don't use it I'll simply pass it along to another mom or to one of the local consignment or charity groups.

I washed already b/c I got them down from the attic when we did winter/spring switch out. I might wash again, maybe not.

I'll probably wash at around 35-36 weeks. I kept loads of dd1's clothes and it totally still smells like dreft, lol! I guess I did a good packing job since the stuff hasn't been worn in 5 1/2 years

Wow...you're all so prepared! I only have about 4 new onesies hanging in my closet with the tags still on. Oh, and a box of a variety of newborn/small size diapers and covers that I bought from a friend who closed down her retail cloth diapering business. I'm only 29 weeks and my shower is scheduled for June 28th, so I guess I'll wait to see what I get from friends/family and then what I still need before cutting off tags and doing any washing!

I haven't washed anything yet. Mine too, are sitting in the closet with their tags. Not because of paranoia of jinxing anything, but because I don't want anything to smell stale by the end of August. It will keep me busy those couple of weeks that I am off before the baby is due though.

I've put all of the baby clothes and diapers away in the dresser, hung up in the closet, and neatly arranged in the changing table. The bulk of the clothes and blankets were my DD's and I honestly don't intend to wash them before use. They went into storage clean. It feels like a waste of time, water, energy, etc to me. Brand new items I'll likely wash before use (though honestly I often put brand new items on DD without washing first), but probably not ahead of time.

Around 35ish weeks I'll wash the used diapers and I'll be sure the official "first outfit" that goes in the birth kit as well as all of the linens that go in there are freshly washed too.

oh man I'm so bad. I'm about 30ish weeks and I've pretty much washed, hung up and folded everything! And I'm still getting more clothing in the coming weeks and even MORE after this baby is born and we know the gender. haha

speaking of clothing....

can I just say how much I HATE ONSIES. oh good god. everything cute I find is a freaking onsie. doesn't anyone make plain infant shirts? I end up buying the onsies and then cutting the stupid onsie part off them and having my mom hem the edge.

Yes, I have found a few infant t-shirts that aren't onsies. There are some decent new-born wrap-style ones that I have for letting the belly button heal. Most people I've talked to (and myself) don't like t-shirts because they're constantly pushed up into the baby's armpits...

I did a search for infant t-shirts and found these..

I prefer t shirts to onesies becuase I think onesies are kind of a pain when you use cloth, but I still buy them too. I really don't have an issue with the t shirts riding up, and if it does a little, I just pull it down Not any worse than a onesie that won't snap over a cloth diaper, or gets soaking wet at the edges when the baby pees in the diaper.
