I had a hospital vbac last time with an amazing OB team and lurved it. Those Obs no longer attend births, and my local hospital is no longer as birth friendly as it was so I was planning a homebirth with midwife for this birth. However, it just wasn't a good fit and as I did more research I came to feel that a hospital setting was more appropriate given my personal birth history (a complicated labor and uncomplicated c/s for dd1, then an uncomplicated labor but complicated vaginal birth for dd2 that left both of us with physical birth trauma).... though it certainly isn't appropriate for the majority of birthing women!
So even though my vbac success chances aren't as good as they would have been with a homebirth (or with my former OBs at a truly birth affirming hospital), I'm now planning a hospital vbac with a midwife team at a hospital about a half hour away. It's not perfect, and I'm not thrilled, but it's the best compromise I can put together.
I'll have my doula from dd2's vbac again, DH is ready to fight for our birth rights at the new hospital (which is less flexible than our old hospital was about vbac options), I have friends in the post-partum wing who are willing to help out after the birth (especially helpful if I have a repreat c/s and a longer hospital stay), and my team is flexible even if they're not exactly cheerleading for vbacs.
I spent the first one and a half trimesters juggling these issues, and trying on different scenarios, and interviewing care providers, and meditating/journaling/crafting to try and reach a sense of peace with my birth plans so I really understand where you're coming from. Hang in there... read all the stories, watch the dvds and youTube videos, and listen to what you really need and want and then see where those different things are available.
