THE exercise accountability thread - Page 2

Glad people are doing well!

I walked around the park with the kids yesterday. Today I have to go early for an activity at my son's school, but there's 20-30 minutes between the end of the activity and when I can actually take him home. I'll probably walk around the park with the baby while I'm waiting. Well... at least, that's the plan so long as nobody chatty decides to hold me hostage in the parking lot. :

Well I failed this week...unless walking up and down a four level split house with a 10lber strapped to me counts???

It's been raining here and even when not it stops it's too risky to try to walk with a newborn as it's high chance of rain all week!

Wish I had the wii fit...maybe my mom will get tired of hers?

Went out to a yoga class last night and it was great! Its the first time I've done something like that. There is a nice studio not too far away that has a "community class" once a week- only $5. Its a pretty mellow class, moved slow but still quite strenuous for me (holing those poses for any length of time is really challenging for my core muscles). It felt GREAT on my back.

Going to just try to make sure I get in a good walk today, maybe after DS goes to sleep. I'm also thinking of trying to bust out some of my exercise DVDs and try 20 minute of that at night or during naptime. I don't have much luck with both kids- somebody seems to need my attention or to be held pretty much all day long.

Thanks again for sharing that link a while back. I decided that I will start this while visiting my parents for the month of August (more help w/ kids) and then see if it feels okay to continue w/ the stroller when I get home- baby will be about 4 mos by then so better able to sit in a stroller. Years and years ago when I used to run for exercise I was so fit and felt so good, and was the thinnest I've ever been. It might have also been that I was 18 years old though! I'm such an old lady compared to that now.

I'm not really I runner, but I play one in my "mama life". I used to swim and bike, and learned to run so I could do a triathlon a few years ago. I'm slooooow, and not really built for running. But since getting out of the house is enough of a challenge some days, I love the ease of running since I can leave right from home. I haven't been to the gym in almost four years now.

Though my oldest HATED the stroller until she was around one. Today was our first fussy run with Nora. I made it about 2/3 of the way through by giving her a pacifier, but after that she was finished. So I carried her home and called it a day. We'll try again on Saturday

Today, I finally managed to find the time to exercise again. 30 minutes on the bike and 30 minutes weight training. Now, I'm sore.

Ok so since I reported last I ran with Wii 27 minutes on Weds, 20 minutes on Thurs and some abs, fast walked 2.5 miles yesterday and some abs and walked today.

Keep it up everyone!

I didn't get to run on Saturday, but did a good walk with baby in carrier and Neela in the stroller (with big hills).

I did the third run of week 3 today- by myself while Nora napped at home!

I've skipped the past couple days. The last time I went on a walk alone, the baby woke up while I was gone. When I arrived home, DP said the baby had been crying in his arms for over 15 minutes. Baby wasn't hungry or anything... fell right back asleep as soon as I touched him. DP was so frazzled by the crying and trying to comfort the baby, he'd forgotten to call my cell.

I felt bad... really shook up. I will go out again. Just didn't have the heart to try again soon after that.

My weight has kind of plateaued now, too. Kinda discouraging.

On a positive note, I have to say there have been days that I've ended up exercising even when I didn't feel like it, because of this thread.

I'm doing so badly with my exercise. In my defense DS was extremely sick for a week and Friday was the first day he was better, so I really was stuck at home. The yoga class was great but almost a week ago now- I really am going to have to bust out the exercise DVDs. At least I am not gaining weight (that is what happened to me last time in the first few months) but EW I saw a picture of me in the background of someone else's picture and I look huge. I know it shouldn't be about that (should be about how I feel and my health and all) but I can't help it.

I do wear the girl for at least about 6 hours a day, that's got to be helping my core strength (and she's packing it on- I don't know how much she weighs but will find out tomorrow at our last MW appt. DS was 14lbs by 2 months, so she's probably somewhere close to that). And I take at least one, often 2 daily walks w/ DS to get around the 'hood, but its clearly not enough.

we just joined the YMCA around the corner from our house. I'm optimistic. Only $50 per month for the whole family and free childcare (which looked nice). I ran into a friend from the park there and she said her son loves the childcare and she "lives there." So that was a nice endorsement.

DD is already signed up for swim lessons starting July 13. Planning to go for our first family swim there today after DD gets up from nap.

Also hoping DD can get into the karate class. (The swim lessons and karate cost extra, but not too much). karate is $35/month with 2 classes a week. Swim lessons were $52 for 8 classes. The karate class is for 5 and up, but we were told we could talk to the instructor and see if they would allow her to try. DD is very verbal and has a good attention span. I think she could handle it, and very much wants to try karate. If it didn't work out, that would be fine too. I just don't see her being a problem child running around and not paying attention. She's a pretty focused kid when she's into something.

They have a full schedule of group exercise classes that are included, and nice machines and such. I hope it works out!

Good luck, Beth- the Y sounds great!

I did a ton of walking yesterday with Nora in carrier and Neela in the stroller. It's pretty good exercise up the hills!

No run for me today, though, since I have mastitis and think that the running bra would be bad news. Spent most of the day topless in bed nursing.

I did some more biking yesterday and swam for 30 minutes today. This thread keeps me going, but DH's reminders and an informal exercise challenge with a good friend in the midwest provide additional motivation. If I can keep this up, I will be more in shape than I've been in several years. :

we went swimming at the Y yesterday and Milena had a blast. I find taking a 2 month old to the pool a bit of an exercise in frustration, but Vincent didn't really fuss. Its just not that fun to try and hold such a young baby in the pool, mess with swim diaper, and so forth. My bathing suit has stiff breast cups and nursing in it is ridiculous. I put a towel over his head and pulled the strap down and tried to hold the breast cup down, but it was a nutty scenario for sure. We were not very "discreet" wrestling under a towel for 10 mins.

I went today to work out and took both the kids to childcare. It worked out great! Milena loved the childcare and Vincent slept most of the time. I did 30 mins on the treadmill. 1 mile light jog and 1 mile fast walk. When I picked the kids up, Milena wasn't yet ready to go. :. Vincent had just been put into a swing and looked content enough. The childcare lady said he fussed a bit when he first woke up so she moved him to the swing.

Am going back tomorrow morning and considering attempting to take them both swimming by myself after the workout. Is that nuts? Milena has a floatation suit.

XOXO

I managed to "catch up" with the running program with runs on Thursday morning and Friday evening. I'll do another today and be back on track with my running partner for Tuesday.

Nora has been less happy with the stroller this week, so I ran after she fell asleep Friday evening so I could do it without stopping to entertain, etc. I'm trying to time runs for when she's tired and can have a nap in there instead of getting bored looking at black for 30 minutes.

YAY! 'm acutally joining you all! I borrowed a Wii and Wii fit from a friend and startind my "training" today. I did 20min. It is sooo fun and I worked up a sweat. I plan to do at least 20 min a day this week then go to 40 min a day next week. I want to loose 20 lbs by end of Sept...when I have to give the Wii back! I love how the Wii tracks everything for you. I was thankfully just overweight and not obese! Though my Wii age was 37 and I'm only 28...YIKES!

ok, well, I started the thread...then lo got sick, and i haven't been able to put her down for 10 days. any time i had without her in my arms was spent trying to do laundry or catch up on work. didn't even get my house cleaned up until yesterday. blah. anyway, does walking her around and bouncing her and swinging her side to side in my arms count as exercise?? Otherwise. I'm screwed for the last 10 days and have to start over! LOL
