Best wool yarn source for soakers

Thread Starter
I've had some mixed luck with the soakers I've crocheted in the past yarn wise. There was one yarn I really like (Marr Haven), but I didn't always care for the little bits that came in the yarn. The others were made with either Lion's Fisherman's Wool or some from Cascade. The Lion and Cascade yarns seemed really pilly.

#3 is due at the end of November and in the meantime I'd like to crochet up a sleepy sack and a few wool soakers. Any suggestions on a good quality yarn while at the same time something that won't break the bank?

for my newborn, I love BFL and Gaia organic bulky merino. The latter is just so soft and squooshy! I get mine through co-ops.

Knitpicks has 100% wool that comes in very nice colors and is very affordable.

I have a new personal favorite Manos Del Uruguay

not terribly cheap but it is so wonderful and it is wearing really well

For crochet, try www.handpaintedyarn.com - very similar to Manos and the two families have links, but HPY is much cheaper. I wouldn't knit with it for anything that will need to take wear and tear, but for crochet- no problem.

I have loved - really loved - colinette skye. It is not the softest ever wool yarn, but still soft enough for soakers IMO. It wears really really well and comes in beautiful colorways.
I knit my DD a pair of longies that she wore for more than a year very often. They were used outside, in rain and mud, washed time and time again and they kept their shape and color very well.
Also BFL generally works well with only little piling, its soft and durable.

My favorite is HPY, link posted earlier, specifically the merino. It is SOOOO soft and the price is unbeatable. It does felt easily, but the softness makes up for it to me.

Ditton on the BFL, it's SO SOFT. I'll use that exclusively with my next babe. Although the Marr Haven one does soften up nicely and I like that it comes from a responsible family farm.

That is one reason I love Peace Fleece - it does soften with washing, wears like iron, and I love that they acted on their wish for world peace.
