Any bad Burt's Bees experiences?

Thread Starter
I'm thinking of switching skin-care products and I've seen many recommendations for Burt's Bees. I have combination/acne-prone skin so I'm a little nervous about breaking out from the skin care products (I had a really bad breakout several years ago when I switched to Aveda products).

Has anyone experienced breakouts or other problems with Burt's Bees products?

actually, yes (i was thinking about this earlier today). recently i ran out of the stuff i usually use, which is nivea oil-control gel or something and the st ive's facial moisturizer. rather than buy more right away, i used what i got in this burt's bees head to toe kit. i used the orange essence cleanser and the carrot day creme.

instead, i broke out pretty bad and my face felt oily.

i like the citrus scrub, but i wouldn't use the orange essence or carrot day creme again. i was disappointed because they both smell so good. i'll probably go back to the nivea. i like almost all of the other burt's bees products, though.

I have several people who swear by the baby buttermilk Lotioin for moisturizer. I have a bunch of thier make up and didn't like most of it. (th lip stick and conceler are great though ) The rest is really heavy though and made my eyes swell.

My SIL has tried darn near every facial product on the marlket and swear by the Aveda.

I have yet to find a burts bees product that is unscented.
Perfumes can be extremly iritating to some....
Dd and I are extremly sensitive to perfumes/scents so I was rather dissapointed that they don't make unscented products as I have heard so much about how wonderful they are.

Burt's Bees uses essential oils which are less likely to aggravate allergies. I have a lot of problems with scents (TONS of problems! I started making my own soap because of it but I don't make face stuff) as well and I haven't had any issues with their products. I wouldn't use the bay rum stuff but the products with essential oils are nice.

If you use the orange face scrub you really need to use toner afterwards.

I really like the avacado hair stuff. (my hair is super dry and frizzy) If you check their website you can often find great deals in the outlet.

I love the orange essence face cleanser...it completely chilled out my acne. Kept my face from getting too dry or too oily. But yeah, a toner is neccesary. And the carrot cream, in any of it's iterations, make smy face break out.

I love the Marshamallow Vanishing Creme. It smells great, and it makes my skin feel so good.

The baby bee buttermilk lotion is great for summer moisture. Nice and gentle.

I have used all sorts of stuff and I love most of it. Not a huge fan of the carrot stuff, but everything else I really like.

I really love the almond and milk beeswax creme....i keep a jar by my sink.

I had problems with my face being irritated by the citrus face scrub. I have also noticed that a lot of the creams/products have a lot of oil in them or are oil based. For instance the carrot day or night cream was way to heavy for my skin (I have combination skin and don't break out a lot) couldn't stand the greasy feel...but the carrot body lotion was perfect as a lightweight moisturizer for my face. I love the orange essence face wash and lettuce toner.

There is a lipbalm with sunscreen in it that I couldn't stand at all. It would turn all pasty on my lips and make them flake more.

Now the regular lipbalm - YUM! It is definitely a must-try!
I love the lipbalm! But after reading here about how great all their other products are I went out and bought the head to toe sample pack. I really couldn't stand the smells! ITs really bad when you can't stand the smell of your own face!

Does anyone know of another "pure" line of skin care products? I'd really like to go this route, but without fragrances!

you know what has been great for my dry skin?

jojoba...it is not an oil. It is an extract... you can get it without any scent.

the guy I get it from comes to a farmer's market here in LA. He is totally a former hippie from my perspective.. he grows it organically. It will last for ever and a day.

you can email him at jojobagary@aol.com

i got 2 oz of jojoba with english lavendar it cost $18.70 plus shipping and handling.

you can email him and make him either fax or mail you his product list. 805-544-3505.

also, I'm a big fan of Kiehl's products. they are outstanding and have been around is 1851.

abi, are you sure they only use essential oils? I could sware it said fragrances on teh ingredients listing of what we had. And I am always confused when it says 98% natural....what is the other 2%?

:LOL

I would say the baby stuff has *perfume*. It is really light though.

i think i must be the only one, but i *love* the carrot day creme. mostly for it's smell i can see how it could make people break out because it's pretty greasy, but amazingly enough it hasn't done that to my skin and if i use just a tiny bit, it doesn't feel too greasy (or maybe i'm used to it by now?) did i mention how gooood it smells?

Some of the stuff does have fragrances, that's why I mentioned the bay rum. The coconut foot cream has to have fragrances as well cause you can't make coconut essential oil

The 2% is probably preservatives or emulsifiers if it doesn't have fragrances in it.

They do try to make natural preservatives (I can't explain the process it is too complicated for me) but they can't use it in all the items. Cosmetics have stricter rules than soap and depending on what they are claiming on the package depends on what preservatives they can use.

If it says fragrance on it then yeah, that isn't essential oils. Some of the stuff does have essential oils.

Jojoba is actually considered a wax. (weird eh?)

I like it, too, and agree that it is very greasy--even in our super-dry forced-air heated house. To tame the greasiness, I use some Olay moisturizer and a bit of the potent, rich Burt's Bees Carrot Day Creme.

When I was pg & had super-dry skin, this stuff was a perfect match, not too much. In the summer, I would never use it--too greasy.

been using burt's for years...

because it is all natural.

the 2% (as I've been told) is usually for the preservative vitamin E which they more stable for (I guess its artificial.)

but they are pretty pure and all this very sensitive face can take. my dh too, who has problems with eczema uses the milk and honey religiously on his face and keeps the eczema at bay --they fragrance fades after a short while on him.

I use the facial scrub and the day and night cream everyday and it keeps the zits away for me.

and i their lipstick too.

their FRAGRANCE is essestial oils and part of the healing/helping effect as far as I am concerned. But the baby butt cream was no good for my dd.

I've tried many Aubrey's products (not happy with many) and very pricy especially bc they say organic, but only a few ing really are...

but to stay away from artificial/chemical ingredients (SLS, parabens, fragrances, etc...) Burt's is a pretty darn good bet...

I LOVE the carrot day/night cream. I have combo skin that is really really dry and prone to breakout on my forehead... and this makes my face as soft as soft can be without making me breakout... first product that I've had such good luck with....

Love the smell too

Love the lip balm, love the milk baby bath stuff... .I just bought some burt bees and some of their stuff definitely has fragrances to it... I was sample testing them... I don't do fragrances.

I've also used cetaphil (cleanser) and lotion and have great luck with those as well.

The carrot day cream BURNS! Ouch! It has never happened with any other product. I switched back to Zia Naturals.

The lip balm looks white on your lips and is stinky so close to your nose.

Sorry, no good experience yet. But, I want to like it.

Some of the stuff is very minty, the lip balm for one.

I love the makeup, I got the sample kit. I really like most of the stuff, even the carrot moisturizer. I don't know if I am the one to ask, I have really good skin! I don't use a lot of makeup, and often will wash my face with just water, but I like playing with the stuff sometimes.

I bought the lavendar/mint toothpaste, and I really like it - not too minty.
