chaoticmum - AHH! Yes. that makes me feel loads better!!! i cant stop checking my damn belly - im constantly feeling for my fudus, and i still dont feel it where the midwife said she felt it. i sware its just right above my belly button. ack. oh well. not much i can do about it but sit tight until the next visit. i think i'll feel better having another ultrasound, if she thinks its necessary.

THANK YOU!

I've only gained one pound this pregnancy so far. So don't feel bad about the weight gain. (I lost a ton of weight the first trimester. I was so sick.) If you are concerned why not insist on having an ultrasound now? I would. But I'm real pushy. :-)

zen--I am 5'9" I have only gained 10# so far and I am 27+ weeks I am barely in maternity clothes and had the MW give me the "YOU DO NOT HAVE AN IUGR BABY" leecture as I was worrried too!! I also looked at my prenantal record with dd and never got bigger than "34" even at term dd was over 8#. try not to worry it looks like your provider is just trying to re-assure you and 14# weight gain is very typical at this stage
hang in there and have a look at your babe again--having a HB I only got 1peek and now I have to wait until his birth

You're welcome!! I totally agree - if you haven't grown in two weeks then definitely look into it further. You don't want to just assume its nothing....

With my first two I was measuring behind, but the babes measured on track at my 16-18wk ultrasounds. I continued to stay 2-3 behind the whole pregnancies so we didn't worry.

I measured 3 weeks ahead with both of my 7 pound babies. I just carry big. I'm measuring 1 week ahead with this little guy already. You probably just carry smaller/lower. "They" say that +/- 2 weeks is considered normal.

I went in for my 22w U/S and apparently they took measurements of the baby and said "oh be careful what you are eating, watch the carbs, the baby is a bit chubby". I thought about laughing at the guy, the baby apparently weighed 1lb3oz according to his measurements.

So I just want to know when they are measuring do they take into consideration genetic factors? Like my husband has a huge head, it fits him, but it is big. And both my parents are tall. I asked about the baby's length and they said..."oh that isn't a measurement we take". OK then how in the world can you tell me the baby is chubby, what if the baby is reallllllyyy long? then isn't the weight fine? I just put the worry out of my mind. I stopped eating bagles and tried to cut back on white potatoes. Other than that...I am letting nature take its course, I don't know how much the Dr.'s and Midwifes really know...not that I can pretend to know more, but measure ahead, behind, chubby yada yada yada. I figure everyone is a little different, and seriously how do they REALLY know?

Fundal height had nothing to do with my 2.5 year old's size. I measured spot on with her throughout pregnancy, but an ultrasound at 28 weeks showed that she was measuring small.

Even if your baby is small, they don't start throwing the IUGR dianosis around until growth slows way down or stops after a series of ultrasounds. My DD stayed consistently small, was born full term at 5.5 lbs , and to this day is a skinny little thing.

Try not to worry!

I agree. And do you know what generally contributes to an IUGR baby?!! My mid-wife's back up mid-wife threw that one at me (I always measure small!) and after some research I continued to refuse the ultrasound. I'm not using drugs, I don't have any underlying medical conditions or eating disorders.

To the OP: I ALWAYS have a baby that measures small. I've talked everyone out of worrying about it, except for my midwife, who said 'well, I noticed you were small but you are very active and have nice abs.'

I gained a total of 20 lbs with my first, she was 7.5lbs. I gained 45 lbs with my second, he measured small too and came out at 7.5lbs.

This time, I'm starting to measure small also and I am absolutely not worried. I do have very strong abs (I can still lift myself with them!) and a long torso also. Plus, I've seen this pattern twice before.

I say- don't worry about it. Everyone is different and measuring is always subjective.
