Organic Chocolate?

Pretty much all of the organic, fair trade chocolate I buy is vile. It has a terrible texture and flavor...kind of rancid and ashy. It's pretty gross. I might be over exagerating, but it is really not worth buying. Especially at higher cost than regular chocolate.

Has anyone found a type of organic chocolate that is actually really good chocolate?

Yes, that was my experience too so I just kept looking. I've found two brands that I really like. This one and this one. The bars that I buy from these two companies are both extra dark, slightly bitter and very smooth. I've not tried the milk chocolate so can't vouch for those.

Green & Black's is awesome.
I agree that the others all have funny tastes. I don't like any of them.

I always thought Dagoba is awesome chocolate.

Green & Blacks.... none of the others even compare!!

See now G & B's and Dagoba just don't do it for me . Both of them use soy lecithin in the mix. This is an emulsifier which allows them to heat the chocolate to a higher heat which IMO results in a less smooth product. Perhaps that's what you're experiencing OP? That said I know that G & Bs and Dagoba are very popular so you'll want to try those as well.

I don't even like a lot of Green & Black's...too bitter for me.

But I get this bar from our HFS every now and then

and it is worth every penny! Wonderful dark chocolate flavor, extremely smooth and velvety in the mouth, no bitterness at all, positively gorgeous. And NO soy lecithin!

If you're wanting milk chocolate, I just found this stuff by Theo:
http://www.theochocolate.com/products/jane-goodall.php I haven't tried the dark but the milk was really good-and I don't like milk chocolate. And soy free again.

I love G & B's and the 85% cocoa doesn't have any soy in it. :

I'm surprised to be the only Dagoba lover here. I especially like their Lavender dark chocolate and their milk chocolate. I have had Green and Blacks a few times which I also enjoyed.

I am also into the raw chocolate products by Navitas (though they mostly make the coco nibs or powder, not actual chocolate bars).

Dagoba and G$B are ok...I like the chai flavored Dagoba. I think it is interesting. But the actual chocolate is sub par, I think. I especially hate the Endangered Species chocolate bars. They are really vile. Anyway, I wanted to buy some chocolate today, perused the organic bars and then ventured over to the European bars and just bought some Lindt. And it's great!
