BPA - Belly Pokers Anonymous

Okay so I have a confession to make. I can't keep my hands off my belly. Its like a mosquito bite - this bump. I am constantly poking at him and rubbing, and massaging my belly to distinguish where he is and what Im feeling. Last night he was moving all over the place and its just the wildest feeling (the manual feeling - not the physical sensation necessarily).

But then I worry that I am annoying him or freaking him out. Like when you open the oven door like 50 times to see if the cookies are done yet?? And it just takes that much longer!!???

Should I leave my cookie alone??

I'm just in total fascination of him and my body and all this - I just want to be sure I'm not disturbing anything.

My husband yells at me all the time 'quit poking him!'...'leave him alone!'...and all i can think is 'youd touch it too if you had one!'. :

I try to leave good enough alone when he is chillin' - but once he initiates a move...game on.

So are there any other bellypokeraddicts here?

Oh I must confess, I too am a belly poker! I like to play games, baby kicks..I poke, it starts a cycle. I guess it is kind of like saying "hey just so you know you aren't alone...I am out here waitning for you and paying attention to you". Although sometimes it is my way of saying "helllllooooo anyone in there, why are you so quite? Can you move or kick or something?"

DH seems bothered by my poking, not that I do it all the time but enough. I hope I am not irritating the LO. I don't do it all day, I let the baby sleep but I just like to play.

Not only am I a belly poker, and my husband is a belly poker, but I have let several coworkers poke, I've let my 4 yr old son poke, and one of my friends (who is likely serving in capacity of doula for me) has tried her luck at "name the baby part" several times.

Don't worry, it doesn't hurt your baby, and no, it won't make him need to cook longer!

I get grouched at too for poking at him! But I like to try to understand where he is and what's going on in there, so I can spend loads of times hanging out with my belly. I leave him alone when he's quiet, unless I think it's been awhile and it's one of his normal activity times.

I grab the baby's tush all the time!

At my appt yesterday the midwife asked if we had started distinguishing body parts yet and my husband was like "oh we were playing with the foot a couple weeks ago and now b's always grabbing its butt" haha!

My husband plays with the baby a lot, he likes to push on a side to get the baby going.

Our birthing instructor asked us last night in class how we're interacting with the baby and my husband was eager to tell her how we play with its feet and butt (we can't get to its head it's pretty much "locked and loaded" as my midwife put it)

! I am not so much a poker as a rub-er. I catch myself doing it everywhere.. Grocery, home, in the car... It feels good on my skin and usually wakes him up too.

I'm a rubber, too.

Wow, that sounds somehow obscene.

Yep, I'm always curious. . .where is he, what is he doing, was that his foot? I am a little nervous poke too much or too hard though (what if I poke his eye or something? I know that is probably silly, cuz he's protected by so much uterus and fluid, but still. . .). So I do press and rub and tap, but try not to poke too deep.

I just wish I had a window into there! There are so many different sorts of movement sensations now, I wish I knew what each one meant. . .I always wonder, what are you doing now?

Same here. I usually rub and apply gentle pressure to try to figure out how she is laying in there.

I always poke my babies And I let the kids poke her. It freaks DH out He's always been that way. That's one of the best parts of pregnancy- being able to poke a little heiney or grab a little foot

I haven't done this too much. I do think it's neat when I'm at the kitchen sink washing dishes and my belly is up against the counter and the baby pushes against it.
