HE washer and stink

I have an HE Washer (Maytag Neptune). We've been having some issues with stink and I think it's because my washer doesn't use enough water.

I started using Tide F&C to help combat some of the stink (just a little bit, the HE kind, not up to the first line) but it's not working.

I usually do 1 short cycle to rinse, no soap, then 1 long cycle on HOT (long wash cycle, max extract, extra rinse), with a touch of Tide F&C, and another short cycle to do a good rinse on cold, no soap, then most of the time I line dry (except for here lately because it's been raining non-stop).

I THINK maybe I could sweet talk my mom into letting me use her washing machine to strip but I'd prefer not schlep all the way over there if I can just use my washer.

Any tips?

Oh, it is a top load, but it's still HE AND it doesn't have a center agitator, just these two little things on the bottom...they stopped making it my mom got it for free when Maytag switched to Whirlpool and they fired her (and everyone else)...Maytag/Whirlpool went through and gave away all the S&D stuff

I also have an HE and I've found that after the hot wash, I need to do an extra rinse with hot water and a hot tea kettle full of hot water to that rinse. That works really well for me.

You may also want to change detergents. Most of the free and clear can cause buildup and resulting stink issues. So even if you resolve this particular issue, it will likely resurface.

Some detergents that you could try that are cd "safe" are: Country Save (my personal favorate), Maggies Soap Nuts, Allens, EcoMax, Equator, Mountain Green Free and Clear (exception to the above rule), Nature Clean, Nellies, Oxy Prime, Planet, Seventh Gen Delicate Care, Sun Free, VIP.

I have a FL and what really helps me is a lot of rinses and washing frequently. The more diapers that are in there, the harder it is for me to get the stink out. I wash every other day. I do a cold wash cycle, a hot wash cycle with Charlie's Soap, another hot wash cycle after that, and then a cold rinse. It seems like a lot but I have tried less rinses and it just didn't cut it.
