Healing with whole foods primer

Ok, I'm trying to incorporate Paul Pitchford's "Healing with Whole Foods" 753 pages http://www.amazon.com/Healing-Whole-.../dp/1556434308 and Nourishing Traditons 674 pages and the other dozens of books and thousands of websites, and hundreds of mama's stories and years of reading, into about 50 pages, by topic.

I'm creating a list of 'topics to include'. I'd love any additional suggestions, of 'don't forget, this is important!' This will be for mamas ttc, pregnant, nursing, post-partum, and people with allergies, asthma, leaky guts, thrush, etc.

What 10 topics do you believe *must* be included? Basically, it will be about one page per topic.

I have the following which I'd like to include.

traditional diets
pH acid/alkaline forming foods
common immune issues: fevers, infections, colds, flus
leaky guts, candida, chemical sensitivities, allergies, yeast
mercury, heavy metals
sea vegetables, kelp, iodine
detox, how, how not to

grass-fed and pastured meat and poultry and eggs
raw honey, fructose
seafood
amino acids, protein, blood sugar
macro minerals: electrolytes, calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, chloride
Trace minerals:
vit A and D (sunlight)
stomach acid, indigestion, digestion
enzymes, chewing foods
probiotics, prebiotics, antibiotics
natural antimicrobials, spices, herbs

local food, seasonal
food combining, variety, rotation, complete proteins
overeating, gut bacteria
calming foods, neurotransmitters
sleep, serotonin related to food
headaches and die-off
hormonal issues, related to food

PROBIOTICS, kefir
A1, A2 raw milk
cultured dairy,
plant vitamins- greens FOLATE
minerals- nuts, bone broths, herbal infusions, water
hydration & liquids: green tea, juicing, kefir, smoothies, lemon juice,

allergies, casein, wheat, gluten, corn, soy, eczema and asthma
fermented foods
whole grains
soaking and sprouting- grains, nuts, seeds, legumes, baking
coconut- magical!

food chemical byproducts- oxalates, salicylates, halides, goitrogens, amines,
preservatives, additives, antibiotics
fats and EFAs, cholesterol
sweeteners, molasses, maple sugar, agave, honey

How to get started
10 most important whole food additions
30 days, step by step

What else? (obviously, this list isn't organized into an outline yet)

Thanks, Pat

wow, that is a very comprehensive list! Are you planning to write a book to be published? Youve set a big undertaking, even if you aren't planning to get published, but I know you can do it!

how about 1 - recipe resources and 2 - supportive tips for getting kids to eat healthy in an unhealthy world and 3 - what is homeopathy and 4 - under what circumstances might supplementation be warranted and 5 - how to find a uspportive HCP!

good luck Pat!

The plan is to make an ebook and have it cheap as possible for downloading, without publishing costs. The hosting and website stuff is the expense. Most of the info is already posted here. It is just compiling it into an easier form to access when you are sleep deprived and searching for answers. When I started the "Probiotics" section, I already have 18 pages. So, I need to summarize.

I believe, the most important part is the 'how to' implementation in easy steps. I totally agree with gilamama. I'm wanting Kathy- kjbrown to write an ebook of recipes. And want to include ideas on how to get kids to eat healthy.

Homeopathy is a whole 'nuther paradigm of alternative. I can't explain homeopathy to myself! It is incomprehensible to me!! You just have to see it with your own eyes to believe it works.

Not sure about the supplementation "circumstances". That is someone else's ebook. I've asked JaneS to write that.

For #5, we'll just have FF/SB/PB's (and Whome's) web site linked. I'm wanting a comprehensive site for mamas who are healing guts and detoxing. Want to share it with LLL, ultimately.

Figuring out how to make it small enough to be readable is the challenge. There is so much information!! The learning curve is steep when you have a 6 week old with allergies and screaming in arms. Btdt, it is hard.

You can always add, "For more information, please see (this website, this book, this blog, etc.)

A small suggestion - One of the major problems I have is trying to find sources for some of the more obscure items. Last night I finally ordered water kefir grains online after I got tired of trying to find some locally.
ETA: Then I had to search online to find out where to order these grains, but it took me awhile to find a source that I felt good about.

I would love a "Resource section" at the back of the book.

What a great undertaking -- and so very helpful! I can't wait to see it!

You will make such a difference, for so many mamas, Pat. Wow.

One thought I have is to make an even shorter "crisis" version, actually. 10 pages, the essentials to get the screaming babe back to a place where a little sleep and sanity can happen (a little background, and then your 30 days, step by step plan, something like that). Then go read part II and learn how to do more gut healing, longer term stuff, more of the "why". Then have a website as part III with more comprehensive resources, links, etc.

I personally also think you could offer the option of paid phone/email consults for mamas in crisis or mamas trying to move to longer term health, but that is a different topic!

Don't forget the importance of enjoying life and enjoying your babe and that if you're too stressed/irritable/depressed, it's not just you, it's your biochemistry, and you can address it nutritionally. And you *should,* for so many reasons.

We might be able to help out with hosting...

WOW, Pat, YAY! (Go, PAT, Go) I'm sounding more and more like a Dr Suess book these days! This is awesome. It would be great to have a couple extra on hand--loaners--I know I get bombarded with questions all the time.

Maybe a short section of true-in the trenches- stories?

Didn't notice if this was mentioned:

How about a list of at home tests you can do, such as for adrenal fatigue, iodine, mag, etc?

Can someone email me the link for this ebook?
