can IgE type reactions be delayed?

DS has been trialing chicken broth and chicken since Tuesday. I thought it was going well, no sleep disturbances, no change in attitude. But yesterday, he woke up with a rash of hives all over just his back. Today there are just a few on his arms, legs and chest, I think maybe 10 total, and the back is much better. I thought hive type reactions were instantaneous or at least within the day of the food. FYI, we flew to Tampa on Wed night, so maybe its the heat or a grimey plane or not our bed/sheets. He's had nothing else besides BM and Elecare with the chicken trial. Do you think chicken is failing?

IME, yes, but we've only dealt with eczema not hives, so I'm not sure how that works. For us, it's typically something like a build-up reaction, with the offending food being consumed over several days until it finally reaches a tipping point. I've never had the experience of one of my kids eating an offending food on a single day and then, having a reaction to it days later.

In your case, with all the possibilities, I'd probably wait until the skin clears up and try chicken again.

it was whole foods chicken and homemade broth, only simmered with a piece of kelp. I think it seems like a build up effect too. So, if I only give it once every 4 days, is it ok or should it be off the list?

Hives are associated with an IgE "true" allergic reaction, so no, you would need to stay away from it completely for at least 6 mths, a year or longer is better, imo.

Well, we've tested positve (RAST and SPT) to egg and peanut. AFAIK, this means his rxns are IgE mediated, and his primary reactions to these foods were delayed - eczema, primarily. Sometimes, his cheeks would redden immediately, but not always. To my knowledge, he has never had hives.
