barking

Our Britta has a barking problem. She is a lab/beagle mix. She mainly barks if you are out of eye sight or if she thinks you are leaving. It is driving me nutty.

I was weeding the side bed, she could see me but not be with me and still she barked.

Any way to discourage this? We are clicker training her.

One way is to teach her to bark on command. And then stop on command. This way, when she barks, you can use the stop command. "Quiet" is a word people use. I happen to use "hush", but it's your choice.

Here are two articles on clicker training that technique Sailor is talking about:

Btw, my dogs would bark, too, if they were behind a fence and I were in the front yard. I think I would just put her inside in that case.
