update on HiB vaccine reaction/next step

Hello all, I posted a month ago about my then 17 month old son having a rash, stuffy nose, cough. He was misdiagnosed 6 times! Chicken pox, viral, allergies, we heard it all. None of the docs would believe me when I told them he was having a vaccine reaction. Why do they always question mothers instinct? So after demanding blood tests to prove that this isnt what they are telling me, I finally have proof that his illness is in fact a reaction to the vaccine. The only thing that helped was an oral steroid giving in the ER. This was his 4th and final HiB shot. We are delaying and we have been since 2 month visit. My fear now is that he will not be able to have immunizations ever, the great doctor we finally found will kick us out of his practice for refusing delays, and of course how am I going to build his immunity up to not get any of these diseases? He is obviously a sensitive little guy.
I'm waiting to hear back from the old office to give me the lot # so I can report this reaction.
Please mommies, educate yourself. Knowledge is power. Only you know whats best for your child, listen to the inner voice. Be strong.
I was weak and allowed a doctor to immunize my sick son.
It is now week 9 of the reaction and he is making great progress.

If the doctor is so great, he will let you be in charge of your son's health care. I see no reason to be afraid. You are the mom. He is only the doctor.

How does anyone build an immune system? It is done through coming in contact with viruses and other germs and building immunity by having a fever and getting over it. This builds lasting immunity and strengthens a human body.

For the immune system this saying really holds true: use it or lose it.

I'm glad your son is feeling better.

I agree with Gitti. If your doctor was such a great doc, he wouldn't kick you out for exercising your right and responsibility as a parent. Also vaccination does not equal immunity. The only way to build immunity to things is to be exposed to them naturally. Why do you assume that without vaccines your child will catch the VPD's?? Just because a child has a vaccine reaction doesn't mean he is somehow weaker or will be any more likely to become sick from a VPD. Have faith in his immune system and let it do what millions of years of evolution have worked so hard to allow it to do on it's own and unhindered!

A great doctor doesn't bully and intimidate his patients. A great doctor understands that it's not his place to make medical decisions for his patients. Their job is to provide an educated opinion and medical care with the understanding that the whole "consent" part of "informed consent" must take priority over their own personal beliefs.

Would you let your dentist or plumber or librarian bully you? If not, then why a pediatrician? Sometimes they need to be reminded that you are a paying customer and your child's medical decisions are not up for a public vote. If the doctor no longer suits your needs, hire another one. Maybe you could find a GP who is a little less likely to be a vaccine zealot.

I don't think a reaction to a vaccine shows his immune sensitivity. Vaccines bypass many of the steps that natural viruses have to go through to attack. I would not be afraid that your son "will not be able to have immunizations ever" I would be afraid to give anymore immunizations. I'm happy your little guy is doing better.
Have faith in yourself mama, you can make your lo healthy. Trust me.
