pulled out my back

geez...

i have been trying really hard to stay in shape this pregnancy. not only b/c i'm pregnant and think this'll be my last one, but also b/c my normal day job of teaching and walking is on pause while i'm on sabbatical and sitting on my bum writing. i have no idea how some folks have desk jobs all day. it's driving me bonkers.

so today i went to the Y for an hour break and did the elliptical machine and walked home. when i got home, i thought "i should stretch" and bent over to stretch and couldn't stand back up.

now my back is all sorts of f*&^ed up, i'm in total pain, and i ahve a 30 lb 2 year old who loves to be carried. had my first pregnancy melt-down and cry moment since i peed on the stick in january.

any advice?

i also feel i grew belly-wise this week, so i'm sure my back is compromised, too.

i am moving in a month. i can't have a whacked out back!

help!

Oh, you poor thing!

As the biggest chiropractic skeptic on the planet, I say call a chiropractor. Today. Take your 2yo if you have to (I know, it sounds better to pull your fingernails out one by one), but go. I found out on Monday that I've had 2 compressed disks along with sciatica- after 2 treatments w/the chiro, I can walk again without my grandpa's old cane.

I would not carry your toddler at all, either. I know your body is used to her weight, but at this point, any weight will aggravate your back.

I'm so sorry you're in so much pain! Hopefully it's just a strain and not a spine thing. Does ice help at all?

Oh god! I'm so sorry! I've had back issues on and off for my whole life, and it s*cks! You use your back for everything you do.

Is there anyway you can get a break for the weekend?

I second the chiro recommendation. I did the same thing at about 6 weeks pregnant and the chiro really helped!

I agree with the chiro suggestion - I tried everything - doctors, physical therapy, etc. and a chiropractor is what helped me. Even if he or she doesn't help, it won't hurt. I am so sorry this happened - I know back pain and I just feel terrible for anyone that has to suffer. It should improve at least somewhat within 7 days. I think ice is a great idea but I would stay away from heat unless doctor says to do it! Hang in there - you will heal!
