Appetite

Do you feel that your food allergic babe has a smaller appetite than other children his/her age? I read in Sue Dengate's FAILSAFE materials that salicylate sensitivity (which we think we may be dealing with here) has a symptom of "anorexia" which she describes in this context as small appetite.

I'm curious if others have wondered about appetite and allergy/sensitivity.

DS has been slow to move to solid foods (like he was still almost EBF at 18 months). But he is autistic, so textures and novelty are issues too. He definitely wants PLENTY to eat, he just expects me to provide it in milk form!

My girl has a huge appetite. It just seemed like she had a small appetite because I couldn't just load her with goldfish, cheerios and cheese strings. Now that I have let go of the "norm" per say, I load her with fruit, veggies, and safe snacks. She loves to eat, it was just that I wasn't offering her as much because I didn't know what to offer. I'm getting better.

My dd had a poor appetite until I stopped eating her offending foods. Now her appetite is as good if not better than my other dd. So, for us, it seems that her not reacting is key to her having a normal appetite. She is still a bit of a peanut, though, but is gaining now.

I have seen it go both ways in DS. Generally he has had a great appetite, but when he is not feeling well and he is not pooping his regular 1-2 times day he doesn't want to eat as much as usual. Symptoms like swollen hard belly, which could be constipation but sometimes I think it was inflammation?

Seems like a fair number of us here (not everyone, but a higher than typical proportion) are low in zinc, and for some people zinc deficiency goes along with poor appetite. Hasn't been the case with me and my kids, but one or two other people have mentioned it as likely issues for them.
