It has always been a proportionally small number of people in any totalitarian society that changed it or even brought down the regime. Quality over quantity. Yes, most people will go with the program. People might even be cowed and weak enough to become informers for the state. But there would be so much outrage that I think it should give serious pause to any American crypto-fascist seriously considering an operation like this.
|And the other reason I don't agree is that we all seem to be like lobsters slowing boiling to death. Our country is imploding and we just go on, life as usual at least on the surface. It seems that people loosing jobs, their investments, housing, and with California about to go insolvent, ... (how many people in this country are aware of what could happen nationally and globally if in the next month california goes 'bankrupt' (which it can't declare anyway) given we are the 8th largest economy) and still, life just seems to go on with barely a protest. My city now has a 24% unemployment rate with 1 out of every 4 out of a job. Somehow, if it came to complying with mandatory vaccination when you don't have a job or money or food or a house, I doubt the fight to survive is going to be with having to get a vaccine.
Yes, our country is swirling down the toilet of history. A once free country has been gutted, looted, and legislated into an international joke. (This thread isn't about why
it happened, though I would point you toward Hayek's The Road to Serfdom
if you want to really depress yourself and see exactly how it happened.) But so many people in America have guns. They have guns, they have land, they have dogs, they have training, they have a deep and abiding hatred and suspicion of the government, and they're very secretive. I know people like this, and I know a little bit about how they think and what they do. This is not some fantasy scenario for them; they've been playing it out, planning for it, readying themselves for a move like this for literally decades.
Look, I agree that this is scary news. I agree that under Bush, and Clinton before him, and Reagan, and Carter, and Ford, and Nixon, etc. etc. etc. legislation has been carefully put into place that would make anything they want to do us "legal". Totalitarian governments almost always act "legally", because they make the laws. It doesn't matter. What really counts is whether they can implement it without destroying their power base from within. And I don't think they can. Not unless they try to take away the guns. And if they do that, they will effectively be declaring war on people who have been expecting and preparing for war. That doesn't sound like a very smart strategy to me, but then governments have never been famed for their good decisions or sound strategy.
|And since most people do believe in vaccines, I think the main issue more or less will continue to be how to deal with fringe people.
That will always be the issue, whether it's dealing with people who refuse to give the government control over their medical decisions, or people who refuse to kill innocents in the name of the state, or people who refuse to surrender their income so that some parasite in Washington can get richer. There will always be fringe people, but the difference now is that those fringe people have the internet. Not since Gutenberg have the power elite been in so much danger of losing control over the peasantry.
Governments will always try to stomp on the necks of people who refuse to comply. But they always lose. I'm not too worried yet, because I don't think America is some special anomaly that will somehow overcome the patterns of history. The Empire is crumbling from within and the people are slowly pulling away from its core. What will follow will be frightening and probably violent. Life as we know it might end, but the fringe people will survive. We always do.
