reflux issues...sorry tmi

Has anyone else had trouble with this? I've had it happen only a few times during this pregnancy. Last night I made the mistake of having a snack right before bed and had been wanting a Pepsi so I had bought one yesterday and sipped a little before bed. I think the Pepsi is what did it. I woke up and shot straight out of bed to the bathroom because I thought I was going to puke. ugh! I didn't but it was so yucky. I had to prop several pillows behind me in order to get comfy for a while before going back to sleep. bleh!

Yuck, sorry!

I've had issues like that this pregnancy, I had the nausea in the first trimester, but very little actual puking, which was odd for me. Since then, it's just been weird burp-like things that wake me up at night. It's not heartburn, or at least it doesn't burn like heartburn did with my first, I assume it's something more like reflux. I wake up in the mornings and do these weird hiccup/burp combo things...GROSS!! I have also had some *really* impressive belches, the man-like belches that come from my toes and reverberate through my chest! My husband actually gave me a standing ovation once!!

I have heartburn issues for sure! If I don't take any antacid before bed I will suffer all night. When I wake up in the night I often 'feel the burn'! Yuck, I usually cough when it is a really bad one. Things are just getting worse, had the same problem when pg with ds. Luckily the heartburn disappears shortly after the birth.

I had severe reflux with ds...It was so bad I had acid erosion and I had to take a acid reducer. It did not work great so rather than risk it I stopped taking it. It last the entire second half of the pregnancy and stopped for good the second ds came out. This pregancy I had had diet related reflux maybe three times. If I am careful about the fats I eat after 4pm then I am fine.

I get reflux if I have too much grain. A single piece of toast can set me off for the whole day.

I haven't been able to figure out food triggers, although too much water will do it. I hate that feeling at night, the almost-throwing-up reflux. First pregnancy was much worse, happend all along; this time, just started Sending sympathy to all of us!

yes this! I cough when this happens. It's like I get a strangled feeling in my throat.

to the rest of you that are dealing with it. I can't stand it. I thought I was going to make it last night, but nope, it struck again. I went to bed 4.5 hours after my last meal and only had a little water before bed. I don't think I can prevent it if I try, well unless I take an antacid before bed. That's a thought.

this has been the cause of me still puking occasionally. Acid reflux sucks. I take medication and that is the only way I could handle the pain from the erosion of my esophagus. I am really ok if I eat small meals frequently.

I am madly in love with my antacids. My doc suggested Zantac, which works well, but I don't like taking all the time. More often I manage with a calcium carbonate antacid which helps unless it's really awful.

i'm eating Tums peppermint antacids, a lot. i can lie down and wake up several hours later with vomit in my throat.
i understand the water thing, too. however now that my amniotic fluid is the "lower end of normal," i'm supposed to push the water.
one thing i've found helpful is *iced water* as opposed to "plain water."
i deal with acid reflux even when i'm not pregnant, but it is definitely worse as the belly gets bigger and digestion slows.
ice cream is a major culprit. eating anything at night = paying the price.

So far so good the last couple of nights. I went to bed with 3 pillows and sat up to begin my night. I also didn't have any snacks after dinner, which can't hurt me. I don't need to eat before bed anyway. I've gained too much weight as it is.

Antacids don't work for my reflux at all. I have to take Zantac (over the counter) if it's bad, but sometimes papaya enzyme tablets work if it's mild. For me, the biggest trigger is anything made with flour.

Gaviscon Foaming Tablets....work like a charm! I find I dont' even need a full 'dose'. Just one is enough to tamp it down to bearable levels.

I used to take the papaya enzyme with my 2nd and they worked, but not my 3rd or this one. I need more.....

I take tums all.the.time for the usual heartburn. When I wake in the middle of the night from the reflux though, the only thing that works is peppermint. Either I have a candy cane or a peppermint hard candy. Works like a charm for me.

My MW suggested ginger or pepermint tea. "dry meals" (no drinking fluids with them), and papaya enzyme tablets. I haven't tried these suggestion myself, but figured I pass them along to you all!

i get heartburn from eating anything and then laying down within a 3 hour time frame. sunday i had heartburn from eating plain yogurt with fresh blueberries. i got a prenatal massage an hour later and got severe heartburn, to the point in which i pretty much couldn't enjoy the massage.

i sleep with a wedge foam thingy and a pillow on top of that. i take 2 tums before i go to bed, but i STILL wake up from puking in my mouth in my sleep about 3-5x/week. i just swallow it, roll over, and go back to sleep. gross!

again, this pregnancy is the universe's way of telling me to stop at 2! reflux, heartburn, back pain, hemorrhoid, gigantic boobs...i give up!
