I made a Mei Tai!

I am feeling very pleased with myself. I just got a new sewing machine and this is my fourth project. I learned to sew when I was 12, but haven't done anything since I was 13...

Anyway, I made an infant sized mei tai carrier for Olivine. :

Very cute! You mentioned that it's an infant sized one, are there different sizes of mei tais? I didn't know that there were. Did you buy the pattern or did you get it off the web? If you bought it, what pattern is it and if it's off the web, can you post a link? Thanks! =)

That's adorable!

I'm impressed, I've been sewing for a few years and have been completely intimidated by the thought of sewing a MT!

Was it really hard/stressful of a project?

I found the pattern online here and decided to add the pocket from another Mei Tai pattern that I saw else where. You can pretty much size them however you want and this pattern suggested a smaller body piece if you want to use it for an infant. I made the smallest size that she suggested because it took almost 12 months for my son to grow into (stick his head out the top) my old Mei Tai...

It wasn't really stressful, but it did take me most of a day to figure it out. My 5 year old son is really good at entertaining himself, so I was able to focus on it for several hours.

I plan on making another one with a modified pattern for my sister in the next week or two. I'll post it when I do.

nice work! I am so jealous. I have a sewing machine, but I really don't know how to use the damn thing for anything other than "square" projects. That whole green grid thing looks like what I need to actually make the leap to patterns. Well done!

Very nice! I haven't had the nerve to try making one of those yet. I tackled a pod though. Oh, and I've made a few slings, but those aren't that hard.

Strong work, mama! I sew but I haven't attempted a carrier. I fear my skills are not up to it.

I made another one today with a modified pattern that I designed myself. This one was easier to make than the first and just as cute!

Very nice job on both of them! I really need to make another MT. My first one I just made entirely too large- even for my toddler.
But I also need to make about 3 dozen fitted diapers and some more wipes. And some of those cute jumpers made out of adult or youth T-shirts. And and and . . .

Oh well, I'll finish what I can before this guy gets here.

Having a couple of carriers is sure handy with leaky newborns!

Abraiseme, nice mei-tei's! I especially like the tulip one. Mamableakely, do you have a pattern for the jumpers out of old t-shirts?

Abra I am so impressed! They both look awesome!

Cute!

I love how you did the patterned straps and plainer body instead of the normal solid straps/patterned body. I don't think I've ever seen that before, but it's a great look

Nice work, there, Mama! I made a MT for ds1, but never really used it that much. But maybe if I made it a little smaller at first... then again, I want to make some more newbie dipes, etc....so who knows what I'll actually get done!
