Air Purifier's Can you suggest a good one?

My pediatrician today recommended we put an air purifer in my son's bedroom to help with allergies. Does anyone know of a good one ? The ones we have seen are about 200 dollars. Are they all that expensive? Thanks in advance.

We have always just purchased a top of the line HEPA air cleaner from Sears. That way we know they'll have the filters available long term. We have two of these:

Kenmore and Whirlpool both have good ones that rated very high on consumer reports, but they are not cheap. We did decide to invest the money in the end though because we felt that it would be worth it. If we got a cheaper model that barely did anything to the air, what were we really buying? The models we bought (we got 3) is the Whirlpool Whispure 510; I'm sure if you searched for that you'd find it. Kenmore has a comprable one that rated slightly higher but cost a bit more too.

Hope this helps!

I have to suggest the EcoQuest International air purifiers. We have had them for over 10 years and LOVE them, go on vacation with them! I know they are expensive but we have had ours for over 10 years so they are worth it and no filters to replace. My brother's asthma got so much better when we got the purifier. It also helps eliminate chemicals from the carpet, dry cleaning supplies, smoke, also when you burn dinner and the whole house smells it helps get rid of the odor.

I was a distributor for a while and there was a little boy that they were going to put in an instiution because of his several autism. They found that it was actually a mold allergy. Once they placed the air purifier in the house, he started to normalize. After 3 weeks he was a normal child again. It always touched my heart to hear that story. Worth checking into!! We wouldn't be without ever!!! Good luck!

Amcor AM-60. It is only about 50 bucks.

It comes with a HEPA filter, but you can also spend $8 and get the washable filter. Then you just wash it and reuse it and don't have to spend a fortune on replaceable filters.

If you want something economical yet still works good, get a Hunter. I got mine at Menards, 14 ft room capacity, for like $50 on sale? The replacement filters are a pretty penny plus shipping if you get them from the Hunter site, but they are sometimes cheaper on Amazon.
