I'm trying to figure out if spinning off my blog would be helpful or not. Right now my Wordpress blog is just a page on my site. It does fairly well with the search engines and we actually see quite a bit of traffic from it.
Since we are about to go to new shopping cart software which supposedly allows for dated articles and resources here's what I'm thinking:
--Buy a new URL and cheaply host the blog in a different place (different IP); use links on the blog and in the posts to drive traffic to my site.
--All "blog posts" I write would then be posted as dated articles directly on my site and then on the seperate blog.
Has anyone tried this? Is it worth doing? On one hand I've seen some stuff that makes me think this would help drive traffic better but on the other hand, it may just be seen as duplicate content by the search engines. I wish I understood this stuff better
