Lyle, the formally picky eater, has revealed a love for lots of different people. His absolute favorite is rice in almost any form.
He won't eat plain kibble, and the only brand of kibble he'll eat is EVO which is "grain free".
So this is where we've sort of ended up, can someone tell me if this is a decent diet for a 25 lb moderately active dog who is about the right weight but has a history of losing weight so we'd like to keep a eye on it?
Feeding him once a day didn't work -- he ate about the same amount as if I fed him twice a day (that is one meal's worth) and by the evening he was very "grabby" with treats and begging at the table which he doesn't usually do.
Breakfast
1/2 cup EVO kibble mixed with 1/6 of a can of Canidae
A.M. training treats -- either a slice of cheese or some chicken broken into small pieces.
Dinner
1/2 cup EVO kibble mixed with brown rice and whatever protein we're having (today for breakfast I made fried brown rice with lots of eggs, butter, and salsa. I took some out before I added the salsa or any salt, and put it aside. I figure I can serve that to him for the next couple of dinners.
Bedtime treat:
Bone stuffed wth 1/6 of a can of Canidae, a smear of cream cheese and some frozen peas.
Does that sound like a healthy diet? Is there something on the list that would be a poor choice, or something that's missing?
Also, how careful do I have to be about things like onion and salt -- the other day I made steak and marinated it with a little Italian dressing. We had leftovers and I gave him a little -- is that safe? I assume it had some onion and salt in it.
