Why does my cat throw up so much?

Kemosabe is about 5 yrs old, a neutered tiger cat. We have 2 other cats too, all of whom get along wonderfully. There is always dry food available in their dish and plenty of fresh water. Of course, in true cat fashion they wake me up begging for 'fresh' food and bug me till I fill their dish again. : Regardless of what kind of food I offer, he'll puke it up shortly after eating, undigested, usually on a rug. : I thought it was just wet food making him bulimic, so we stopped offering it. I've tried high end kibble, cheap Meow Mix and raw. Makes no difference (though they really prefer the kitty junk food to the expensive and even raw foods). He rarely coughs up a hairball, so i'm doubting it's that, and he doesn't eat ribbon, grass or other things cats often barf up. He otherwise seems healthy... good litterbox manners, friendly, nice coat, bright eyes, plenty of attention and time away from people/cats.

Before I spend a ton of money of a battery of ridiculous vet blood tests looking for some rare genetic disorder, any suggestions?

: My cat is the same way. And I, too, have tried raw, etc. He's a healthy weight and looks healthy so am hoping for some answers here. (I am so tired of cleaning up the messes from the carpet.) Thanks for starting this thread.

My moms cat does this....and while he has always been on pretty crappy food, it sounds like maybe that doesnt make a difference. My mom usually just feeds him like a tablespoon at a time, througout the day. It helps.

I have a 13yo cat who has been doing this for years. I don't remember her doing it as a very young cat (and that's when I probably fed her the poorest quality food, too).

She also tends towards greasy coat. Nobody has been able to figure out what her problem is. A few years ago, she developed a dry cough, and she was diagnosed with heartworms. Yes, cats can get heartworms....even indoor cats. She was on Prednisone for about 18 months before her bloodwork showed no more heartworm....but she still coughs and it's been two years since stopping the meds.

Poor kitty. Every other cat I've had has been healthy (except for a stray with FIV that I took off the streets).
